Can This Eyeliner Take The Heat?

Welcome to KULALA Beauty Club, where YOU our dear readers help us suss out the best in the beautysphere. This week, we have Rachel (@raetarddd) and her review of YSL Beauty’s Dessin Du Regard Eyeliner Pencil. Rachel is a business student with a love for exploring new places and collecting all things rustic and floral.

Talk. About. Pigmented. This was quite literally my first reaction as I swatched the YSL Beauty Dessin Du Regard eyeliner pencil along the back of my hand. This creamy liner comes in a thin black body with a sleek gold cap and boy, it is quite the dream to apply. Think a super velvety texture in the most intense jet black. All you need is the tiniest bit of pressure to get a thin, dark line.

Being a big fan of tight lining, this eye pencil fits well into my daily routine as it glides along the waterline very easily with zero tugging. And with the excellent colour payoff, one stroke is all you need. It goes on just as smoothly onto the eyelids as well! Complement it with your favourite volumising mascara like I do for maximum oomph. For the ladies who are feeling a little more adventurous (and with more skilful hands than me), the product can be blended out as an eyeshadow too.

The intensity and texture aside, however, it does tend to fall short in the melt-proof department. I found the product leaving faint smudges along my underage area throughout the day, and it does transfer slightly onto my lower lash line as well. Nothing too major, but it’s a tad disappointing for a product that claims to be smudge-proof and transfer resistant (and at 40 dollars a pop!).

However, it does last much longer than other eyeliners I’ve tried, so I’d say it delivers its promised 12 hours of wear. It is waterproof as well, which is always essential. (Oh, but you do have to sharpen the pencil every few days, because its creamy texture means it gets blunt rather quickly.)

My final verdict? I think it’s an excellent product overall. If you fancy yourself the pigment of a liquid eyeliner, but with softer and less defined edges, give this one a try! However, it’s definitely not as precise as a liquid liner, so for the ladies who are a fan of the good ol’ cat eye, I’d recommend using this together with a liquid liner for best results. This eyeliner pencil comes in six different shades too, so have fun experimenting!
