You all know how much I love my shirts, trousers and pantsuits. But every once in a blue moon, I come across a dress that makes me forget how much I like dressing like a boy. Now, let’s analyse this Self-Portrait dress for a second (similar here and here) – it’s got the ruffles, swishy pleats, tiers, a little bit of lace and a lot of skin at the front and the back. It’s very girly. (The last time I wore a dress with so much front-vage, I wore a t-shirt underneath.) Yet, there I am, frolicking around a garden in it and having quite a bit of fun swishing the ruffles and pleats back and forth. Maybe it’s the intense red colour. Maybe it’s the made-for-erratic-summer-weather silhouette. Whatever it is, it had me at hello.
It’s a very romantic dress, which makes it a no-brainer for date nights and dressier events. I decided to put a casual spin to it by pairing it with my shoe-of-the-moment, slip-ons – how many times have you seen me in these Gucci loafers already? – and an edgy necklace layered over a choker. Both red, of course. I topped it all off with my favourite kind of topper – a flat top hat. Again, in red. Score one for Team Monochrome!
