You Can’t Go Wrong With This Fool-Proof Eyeshadow Palette
From matte to shimmery and cool to warm hues, the Smashbox LA Cover Shot Eye Palette is a winner in versatility. The best part? It already has four colour combinations sorted out for you.| January 21, 2020
Welcome to KULALA Beauty Club, where YOU our dear readers help us suss out the best in the beautysphere. This week, Naomi (@naomitham_), whose heart beats for travel and exploration, reviews the Smashbox LA Covershot Eye Palette.
If there’s any makeup product that can make me jump up and down in excitement, it would be an eyeshadow palette. Something about receiving an entire palette full of lust-worthy shades to play around with just gets to me, so you can imagine how thrilled I was to receive the Smashbox LA Cover Shot Eye Palette.
On first glance, the palette was gorgeous. It was inspired by the colours of the streets, sunsets and skylines of LA as was reflected on the beautiful imagery on the cover of the palette. Packed with 9 matte and 7 shimmery shadows that feature vibrant shades and wearable neutrals, it is a very versatile palette. You could create anything from dramatic to every day looks. Perfect for just about anyone!
Upon first swatch, however, I noticed that the matte pigments felt rather dry and chalky on my fingers but the colour payoff was definitely there. I have not used any Smashbox eyeshadows prior to this so I was a little bit concerned with the quality. These doubts were quick to dissipate upon application. I was able to get great pigmentation with my regular brushes with no trouble at all. I noticed that there was minimal fallout as well. The shimmers definitely had better pay off when I used my fingers to pack them on.
I also loved how Smashbox divided the palette into little quads of their own to piece together the whole palette, each with a unique colour story. It makes it very easy for novice makeup lovers to create looks by sticking to each little quad. First quad featured eye catching brights, with a brilliant teal and an eye-catching coral. Second quad is my everyday favourite, with warm tones and a delicious gold shade. Third quad had my favourite shade in the entire palette – a rose gold shimmer. And finally the last quad for those who prefer cooler tones. With that said, it is still a very cohesive palette as I use various combinations of the shades religiously.
In conclusion, I absolutely loved my first Smashbox palette experience and I definitely encourage makeup geeks to swatch the shadows (especially the shimmers!) in Sephora for themselves. If not, just go play around with the brilliant palette packaging – the image of the beach shifts from daytime to sunset to keep you enthralled for a while.
