Treat Yo’ Self: 7 Beauty Splurges To Make This Week

To combat the sweltering heat, we take a deeper look into what gives setting powders the power to absorb all that sweat and oil.

The weather has proven to be quite unbearable of late, with sweat dripping down in bucket loads and makeup threatening to slide off the face. It’s always the hottest month of the year here in Singapore and it is times like these that we thank the geniuses who invented primers, setting sprays and the slightly less buzzed-about setting powders. To really set things in place, pun very much intended, we’re introducing seven powders that you should splurge on for that silky finish with a little guide on how to choose your fighter.

A good powder should absorb excess oil on the face, keeping all the makeup from moving about throughout the day. Aside from trying out the powder itself, one easy way to tell if it’s going to work well is to look closely. The finer the particles, the better it’ll absorb oil as well as give a silkier finish. For drier skin, this one from Chanel Beauty doesn’t drain all the hydration away, making it a great powder over dewier foundations.

So, pressed or loose, you may ask? Both of them are essentially the same thing, so it all boils down to personal choice. We do find it a little easier to use loose powder for the under eye and nose area that needs a little bit more attention. However, if you’re looking for a powder to touch up on the go, a pressed compact is the more convenient choice because you can take it and go, sans brush.

As for the question on choosing coloured or translucent, coloured powders can provide an extra layer of coverage or warm up a foundation that’s a little bit too light. Although many powders come with a puff, a brush is always easier to apply and brush off excess to avoid the excess landing all over your clothes. From cult favourites to lesser known wonder workers, check out seven of our favourites down below.
