Treat Yo’ Self: 7 Beauty Splurges To Make This Week
If your lips are still flaking like a croissant despite the coats of lip balm you put on, then it really is time to toss the Vaseline and consider these power-packed options.| January 24, 2018
This week, we’re on the topic of preventing and curing chapped lips. We’re constantly in a battle with our flakey lips and we hate how much we have to restrain ourselves from peeling it. If you’ve ever experienced that, you’d know how difficult it is to control your fingers from pinching that lip skin. Plus, it gets worse during cold and dry weather. Unless you’re a vampire and you like the taste of blood, there’s a reason why some lip balms don’t work as well as you think they should.
Something as mainstream as vaseline might do you more harm than good. The reason behind it is simple: Vaseline is an oil-based product that seals the barrier between your lips and the air, meaning that moisture does not leave the skin. Sounds good? Nope. What moisture is there to seal in if your lips have already shrivelled up and has reached the stage of skin shedding? But don’t you worry, child. Heaven’s got a plan for you, and we’ve got a plan to heal those lips.
First off, don’t peel! We’re serious. Get a lip balm that’s got humectants like hyaluronic acid and glycerin in it to add moisture, and seal it in with occlusive agents like beeswax, shea butter and various oils. Now wait for an hour or two, and exfoliate away with a lip scrub. Ding! Ding! Ding! You have achieved baby soft lips, and they are are ready for some gloss that will ensure they stay that way.
We’ve harped on endlessly about the two lip balms we love to death: Dior’s Dior Addict Lip Glow and Glossier’s Balm Dotcom. But in case you need more options, especially ones that are really packed with good stuff for your lips, here are seven that’ll stop you from unconsciously licking those lips.
Lilah B. B.kissed Lip Balm
This soothing lip balm with hints of mint and lavender will definitely halt all irritation and burn from the painful cracking of your lips.
By Terry SPF15 Baume De Rose Lip Protectant
It’s all love when it comes to rose-infused products, and we’re definitely adding this to the list. It’s got all the good stuff like vitamin E, pastel oil and other seed oils that’ll help inject moisture into those lips. The SPF is an added bonus, too.
Zelens Lip Enhancer
Ah, the balm that changes colour according to your PH is something we’re loving. Not only because of the colour, but also how nourishing and hydrating it is. Hyaluronic acid and shea butters are some of the lovely ingredients inside.
Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour® Cream Lip Protectant Stick SPF15
Aside from having SPF and vitamin E inside this lip balm, it’s also got a good mix of both humectants and occlusive agents that’ll moisturise and protect your chapped lips.
Ilia Tinted Lip Conditioner
There’s nothing we love more than jojoba oil and anything that’s got to do with our skin. Because of its similarities to our natural oils, this lip conditioner that is infused with it will provide you with nothing but the softest lips, ever.
Tata Harper Be Adored Lip Treatment
This special treatment is formulated with a rich blend of antioxidant oils and date palm extract that’ll help you achieve supple lips and a plump pout. It’ll also leave a rosy-tint, which is really convenient for us lazy girls.
3Lab Healthy Glow Lip Balm
Infused with only the good stuff, this balm has a mix of vitamin C, vitamin E, beeswax and jojoba oil that’s going to ensure your lips stay looking full and plump. The blend of various seed oils will ensure optimum hydration to your lips, too.
