Treat Yo’self: 7 Beauty Splurges To Make This Week
It's all about the legendary makeup artists and hairstylists, and their eponymously-named beauty brands that they have blessed the world with. Gimme, gimme.| October 19, 2017
Before we commit your week’s savings to a new beauty product, the “better be safe than sorry” mentality prompts us to further research the heck out of a specific product, spending a long time between the aisles nose-deep into reviews while maintaining a completely nonchalant on the outside. But, we do abide by a general rule of thumb in most cases: if a legendary makeup artist recommends it, or better, made it, it is going to the “Try First Then Cry” basket. (The crying can be used for both tears of joy because you’ve found something great, or tears of sorrow because you know you’re never going to use it again.)
These maestros that made this week’s beauty splurges have worked their magic backstage at runway shows, on major editorials and even on good old A-listers, from Kim Kardashian to Meryl Streep. Yeap, if our girl Meryl trusts a makeup artists or hairstylist, nothing else needs to be said. Below, we zoom in on an edit of beauty goodies that have either been primed by the industry’s toppest of the tops or from their own eponymous labels.
Pat McGrath Labs Skin Fetish 003 Illuminator Kit – Nude
Pat McGrath used this three-piece kit for Valentino’s Spring/Summer 2017. That’s all you the assurance you need. Achieve that glow from within when you layer the Iridescent Pink 003 Pigment press-powder highlighter, followed by the Nude Shiny Stick Highlighter. Finish the transformation with the Balm Duo.
Beauty Blender Micro Mini Correct Four
Anyone who knows makeup knows the Beauty Blender. But did you know it all began because its founder that Rea Ann Silva was tasked to ensure that the lead actresses of CBS’s Girlfriends would look flawless on screen? That’s when she started researching and prototyping the perfect sponge and gave the world the Beauty Blender. The Micro Mini Correct Four is designed to represent the different colour correcting shapes in their own shade and the miniature size is aimed to get into every nook and cranny of your face.
Sam McKnight Easy Up-Do Texture Spray
Get runway model-like hair with Sam McKnight’s spritz and grab a couple of bobby pins while you are at it. Not only do the models look good, but they smell like a fresh flower. The spray is scented namely with herbs, water lily, pepper and cedar wood. Time to bid goodbye to bad hair-dos and days!
By Terry Ombre Blackstar
Terry de Gunzburg was Yves Saint Laurent Beauté’s Creative Director before she founded By Terry. Spearheading the creation of the brand’s cult-favourite Touche Eclat, we definitely expect no less from her own beauty offerings. The cream eyeshadow in Ombre Blackstar glides on smoothly and is very long-lasting!
Charlotte Tilbury Charlotte’s Magic Cream
With 20 years under its belt, Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Cream from her eponymous line was first used formulated and used backstage at shows. It instantly plumps up and dehydrates dull and even hungover complexions, with bio-nymph peptide complex that reduces the appearance of fine lines and improving elasticity, all leaving a natural and youthful glow.
Ouai Haircare Repair Shampoo
We all know Jen Atkin as the maestro behind Kim Kardashian’s long mane. So basically, anything she makes? We’re game to give it a go. We already love her Rose Hair & Body Oil, but because the search for the greatest shampoo in existence never ends, we’re eyeing the Repair Shampoo, too.
Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser
After cleaning out two tubes over the past year, I think it’s safe to say I’m a huge fan of Laura Mercier’s Tinted Moisturiser. The demi-matte sheer coverage acts like a second skin and its lightweight formula helps to manage oil control, contains SPF and vitamin E to protect the skin. Simply put: a no nonsense all rounder. Or, should I say, all wonder?
