Treat Yo’self: 7 Beauty Splurges To Make This Week
Remember those mood rings from the nineties? Well, forget them. These colour-changing lipsticks and blushers are, like, so much better.| November 2, 2017
Every now and then, we crave an element of surprise to shake off the mundanity of life i.e. adulthood. We try to buy things that don’t usually have a spot in our court. For example, a pink-something even though your regular wardrobe comprises largely of one colour, probably black. Or, loading up on haircare even though your typical hair routine is as basic as it gets. So, indulge us for a minute. Indulge yourself for a minute.
Back in the nineties, mood rings and necklaces were all the rage. More to do with temperature levels than your actual mood, we wore them in the misunderstood name of cool. Here’s hoping those never come back. The beauty equivalent of mood rings, though? That’s a whole other story. Though still not a reflection of your mood, the beauty sphere’s take relies on the pH level of your skin, lips or sometimes, the environment – typically the work a dye called Red 27 – of giving you a finale that will probably be slightly different from the girl who is test driving the very same product next to you at the store.
Because the results are different for everyone, these chameleons are a hit or miss. You could get a colour you absolutely love, or you could end up with one you probably will not wear on a regular day. Still, you never know until you try and it’s all in good fun. I mean, why wouldn’t you want to try a golden yellow lipstick? Imagine the stares you’ll get when you whip it out on your morning commute and then further stares when it turns to a perfectly normal human colour. (We got a reader to try said lipstick and she absolutely loved it, so there’s a glowing review for you.)
Lipstick Queen Mini Transformative Trio
Miniatures are the best way to experiment with beauty products without too much commitment. Don’t be put off by the colour just yet! Mornin’ Sunshine (yellow) gives a sheer coral, Frog Prince (green) with a rosebud pink tint and Hello Sailor (blue) in a plum shade.
TONYMOLY Delight Magic Lip Tint
This one’s for all you K-beauty addicts. It comes in three fruity shades: green apple (changes into a soft pink), red berry (leaves a rosy tint, this one’s obvious enough) and strawberry (the clear balm turns into a berry pink shade).
Tarte LipSurgence Skintuitive Lip Tint
Lipstick Queen Frog Prince Cream Blush
No princes here, just a cream blush in an alarming shade of green that eventually turns to a rosy pink. Just look at how fun it is. There’s also a matching lipstick and lip gloss, though if you ask us, the creamy blusher can double as a lip colour as well.
Winky Lux Flower Balm
You’ve seen this everywhere on Instagram and the whole Beauty & the Beast situation earlier in the year only served to fan the fervour behind anything involving flowers in suspended animation. With a real chrysanthemum flower planted inside these clear bullets, the coconut-scented lipstick changes into a pink hue.
Smashbox O-gloss Intuitive Lip Gloss
Rich in moisturising and skin energising antioxidants, the Smashbox O-gloss Intuitive Lip Gloss with Goji Berry-C Complex will leave your pout glossy and pink. Without the sticky or slimy aftermath, of course.
Dior Addict Lip Glow Colour Reviver Balm
We saved the best for last. Not only is this one of the best lip balms we’ve ever tried, this is also engineered to react the moisture level and chemistry of your lips, giving you instant yet natural colour that matches your skin tone. Magic, is that you?
