Treat Yo’Self: 7 Beauty Splurges To Make This Week
We've got a topcoat that seals in lip colour, a day cream formulated by space scientists for overstressed skin and the greatest blush we've ever met.| July 10, 2017
Is it just us or has the sun really been beating down hard lately? It is as though we can feel the heat crawling up on our skin the moment we’re one foot out the door. Any room without a cooling system is an instant furnace. With that, our skincare and makeup routine needs to change as well. Even a tough-as-nails primer isn’t good enough. Plus, we need to glow. Glow is key when the sun is out. (Obviously, don’t forget the necessary sun care as well.) For you, we’ve found a topcoat for your lips that seals colour in, a powder spray that gives your hair ample volume sans shower, blushes and highlighters that give you a glow like no tomorrow and for extra measure, a day cream and face oil that work especially for overstressed and irritated skin.
111Skin Space Anti Age NAC Y² Day Cream
With a name that sounds more like a physics formula than a skincare product, you really can’t blame us for being intrigued. Created together with actual space scientists, the cream targets overstressed skin – post-surgery, environmental pollution, insufficient sleep – and stimulates collagen production.
Artdeco Magic Fix Lipstick Sealer
It’s about time someone invented a setting spray of sorts for lips. Artdeco’s Magic Fix does a lovely job of keeping your lipstick from transferring, which means less touch-ups and less mess in general, and leaves a semi-matte finish. It won’t work as well on highly glossy lips, so it’s best to keep this to the matte range.
Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush
We’ve met many blushes in the last year or so, but none have impressed us quite as much as this one from Hourglass. (We picked it up on one fateful day in-between shows at Milan Fashion Week several seasons ago.) It goes on easy, blends well and imparts a natural, glowy flush. Now that Net-a-Porter’s restocked them, we’re doing the same.
MAKE Beauty Skin Illuminator
Powder highlighters work best in Singapore’s humidity, but we can’t resist the versatility and dewiness of liquid highlighters – especially when it’s MAKE Beauty’s gold-peach Llós. With green tea, ginseng and purslane extracts, the highlighter not only looks dewy on your skin but also moisturises as well.
Morphe 25B Bronzed Mocha Eyeshadow Palette
Taste’s Tartelette In Bloom is among our all-time favourite eyeshadow palettes, but we’ll be the first to admit that the price is just slightly exorbitant. If you’re looking for an alternative that is just as good, if not better, look to Morphe’s 25B that has very similar colours – and then some. They’re pigmented and creamy, too.
Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil
Here’s your last call to jump on the facial oil bandwagon. While most focus on moisturising and brightening, Luna goes the extra mile with trans-retinoic acid that minimises pores and returns elasticity to your skin. It also contains Inky Blue Tansy – is this not the cutest name for a flower you’ve ever heard? – that soothes irritated and stressed skin.
Oribe Swept Up Volume Powder Spray
For mornings where your hair is flat as heck but there’s no time to shower. Work in the dry shampoo, then spray on Oribe’s powder spray at the roots for an extra lift. This doesn’t leave a powdery residue or result in flakiness, so those are already major pluses.
