The Unexpected Appeal of Wearing Bows In Your Hair

With no help from Blair Waldorf this time. Before you toss away that seemingly useless piece of ribbon, Tory Burch and Alessandro Dell'Acqua have something to say.
|

The runway beauty from Fall/Winter 2017 was, well, quite beautiful. We saw eyelids decorated with shades of gold, copper, pink, red and lavender, and lips dressed up in everything from vampy dark cherry to covetable nude-browns. There was also a little hair trend that would have gone unnoticed if you weren’t looking properly. Alas – with no help from Blair Waldorf and pre-goth Jenny Humphrey – the hair bow is back.

Tory Burch attached long, velvety ones to ponytails while Temperley London went a little more Waldorf with the trend, wrapping ribbons around the head before tying a bow at the back of the head. For Rochas and Marchesa, smaller bows just above a low ponytail and chignon was the ‘do of choice. We spotted the little bows at Rochas in the flesh while in Paris and we thought it was such a quirky surprise when the models turned the corner. We like looking at adorable, but we rarely like it on ourselves. These little bows, though, especially with a messy ponytail? We may concede. Oh Blair Waldorf, what an influence you remain on our post-adolescent minds.

So, the next time you’ve got some ribbon lying around, whether it came tied to a paper bag or otherwise, keep it. Wear it in your hair, on your neck, on your wrist, or make like this one clever street styler we spotted last season and lace it over your worn-to-death black booties.
