Beauty Wars: The Best Eyeshadow Palettes That Never Leave Our Vanities

We compiled all our favourites into one compact little list – eyeshadow puns! – featuring everything from cult favourites to ones that are low-investments with high, high returns.
|

If you’ve ever walked into Sephora wanting to buy a new eyeshadow palette and found yourself walking out with nothing but swatches all over your forearm, you’re not alone. The seemingly never-ending palettes can be pretty overwhelming, and finding a palette where you’d use 90 percent of the colours can be very tough, too.

But the colours are not the only thing to take into consideration . Texture, the way it blends, size of glitter and lasting-power all plays a part. In this latest edition of Beauty Wars, we suss out all the best ones and compiled them into this short little list. This time, we made sure to feature eyeshadow palettes from different price points and still with best qualities. When, where and how, we cover it all below.

Tarte Toasted Eyeshadow Palette

The Tarte Toasted Eyeshadow Palette is pigmented, super easy to blend and has the most wearable, everyday shades. The 12 warm colours range from light to dark tones, featuring an appropriate balance of mattes and shimmers. In short, we love it not only for how long-lasting it wears, but for the baby-smooth, almost creamy finish that’s there because of the Amazonian clay present. The powder textures are just so, so fine. It doesn’t look patchy, provides intensity and isn’t chalky.

Urban Decay Naked Heat Naked Heat Eyeshadow Palette Petite

Urban Decay’s Naked Heat Palette left everyone scrambling when it sold out during the red and terracotta eyeshadow craze. Although we don’t regret snatching one up ourselves, we also purchased the petite version that features just six very essential matte shades that we use on the daily. The ultra-compact packaging is perfect for on-the-go looks or light travels, and provides velvety smooth blending power with all-day wear. The warm shades work for both hot and fall weather season, too. It does lack a shimmer shade, so you’ll have to get that from another palette.

Kylie Cosmetics The Bronze Palette

One dip in each colour will transform your lids into one of a bronze goddess. The nine pressed shades from the Kylie Cosmetics Bronze Palette are made up of seven mattes and two satin-shimmers, that can be used to create everyday looks. We love using satin-shimmer shades to brighten up the eyes and transform day to night looks on days where we don’t feel like using glitter. We never forget to bring this one with us on our travels.

Huda Beauty Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette

In the most compact form it can be, this Huda Beauty Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette is a limited edition one, so as you’re reading this, just purchase one in case it runs out. There are a total of five different palette variations, ranging from cool greys and silvers to warm corals, browns and mauves. The formula is creamy but matte, and with very little fall out. We love the way each shimmer shade shines when we dab it on with our trusty fingers.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette

Anastasia Beverly Hills has gained quite a large cult following ever since their raved-about eyebrow pots, and their Modern Renaissance Palette deserves no less attention. The 14 shades are intensely pigmented and only need a dab or two for full coverage on your lids. It might be a bit difficult for beginners when building up a look, but this is surely one to have, especially if warm reddish looks are your thing.

ColourPop Cosmetics Fortune Pressed Powder Shadow Palette

At such a competitive price point with highly pigmented colours and beautiful shades, it’s difficult not to click on “add to cart” for ColourPop Cosmetics Fortune Pressed Powder Shadow Palette. Perhaps you might doubt the formula, but fret not, for this one delivers. The velvety powders sit on the lids for long and blends gorgeously, too. Plus, ColourPop is really the place to go to if you’re looking for more adventurous, low-investment looks.

NARS Narcissist Loaded Eyeshadow Palette

The last one on our list is the NARS Narcissist Loaded Eyeshadow Palette, one that has resided in our makeup bag for a very long time. With high pigments and high intensity, the wearable shades make it easy for one to transition from a day to a night look in a flash. Each dip into the palette will leave you in awe at how amazingly smooth and velvety the texture and payoff is. It’s versatile and provides just the right amount of highlight and contour.
