Best of Beauty – Episode 3
We tried, we tested and we emerge with plenty of recommendations. These babies are the best of our beauty hauls for the month.| August 25, 2016
So many beauty products, so little time and skin surface to test them all. Every month, we suss out the best products in the beauty business, whether its makeup, skincare, fragrances or hair care, so that you can build up your own arsenal of beauty must-haves in no time. Some of it are brand new releases, others are cult classics. Finding the best products that work for you is all about trial and error, and we’re here to quicken the process and lessen the pain. And if you have any doubts, cast your worries aside – all of the recommendations have been tried and tested by yours truly. Onward to Episode 3 of our “Best of Beauty” series! (We’d love to hear about YOUR all-time favourite beauty products too, just leave in the comments below.)
1. Dior’s Diorskin Forever Liquid Foundation
Liquid foundations that really, and I mean really stay on the skin throughout a typical Singapore day are hard to come by, which is why we were so surprised by Dior’s Diorskin Forever Foundation. Lightweight with a scent that smells like nighttime moisturisers, all you need is one to two drops for the whole face. We tested it out for a whole week and it stayed put for more than 12 hours, even more on cooler days. It works really well with a Beauty Blender too, giving quick and even coverage.
2. Chanel’s Les 4 Ombres Multi-Effect Quadra Eyeshadow in 204 Tissé Vendôme
We’re big fans of metallic and glittery shadows and Chanel’s Les 4 Ombres in 204 has that in shades that are easy to use, whether it is a day at the office or drinks after hours. You don’t even need to be a pro to use these – just layer them on from light to dark and blend out the lines. Like the Diorskin foundation, this eyeshadow palette has commendable staying power. It is great for travel, too.
3. Kat Von D’s Shade + Light Contour Palette
Remember what we said about our tiny obsession with contouring products? This month’s star is Kat Von D’s Shade + Light Contour Palette. Surprisingly versatile and easy to use, a little bit of any of the six powders is enough for full effect. You don’t need to have the skills of a Kardashian makeup artist to use this well. (Though, if you need some tips on contouring, we asked a celebrity makeup artist for some).
4. Make Up For Ever’s Radiant Primer Mauve
One of the ways to help makeup stay on your face longer is to cut the layers. If your primer is also a colour corrector and slight moisturiser, that’s even better. We like this mauve-tinted one from Make Up For Ever for its lightweight formula that blends and spreads over the skin easily, and for its instant brightening effect. It also helps to correct yellow undertones. While you can use it as a base before everything else, we sometimes pair it with liquid foundation before blending them all together at once.
5. Laura Mercier’s Face Illuminator
You can’t contour without a side of highlighter! Laura Mercier’s newest illuminator not only gives a natural-looking, non-cakey glow, it actually does bring out bones on your face you never thought you had. Our favourite is Devotion, the pink-coloured one of the lot. Don’t mind us –we’re dusting this on our collarbones and shoulders, too.
Psst, we finally got Facebook. Like us over here, maybe?
