Best of Beauty – Episode 4
Not even fashion week can distract us from our monthly stock-up of beauty goodies. Here is what's on our radar this month.| September 26, 2016
So many beauty products, so little time and skin surface to test them all. Every month, we suss out the best products in the beauty business, whether its makeup, skincare, fragrances or hair care, so that you can build up your own arsenal of beauty must-haves in no time. Some of it are brand new releases, others are cult classics. Finding the best products that work for you is all about trial and error, and we’re here to quicken the process and lessen the pain. And if you have any doubts, cast your worries aside – all of the recommendations have been tried and tested by yours truly. Onward to Episode 4 of our “Best of Beauty” series! (We’d love to hear about YOUR all-time favourite beauty products too, just leave in the comments below.)
1. Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate
If you’re a little tired of the stickiness that comes with overnight leave-in masks, oil concentrates may be your answer. We love this little bottle of goodness from Kiehl’s that smells very botanical and feels so wondrously light on the skin despite being oil-based. And yes, the concentrate works if you have oily skin, too. Just remember to cleanse your face first before putting on a few small drops. After that, go to bed, let the product work its magic and wake up with hydrated skin. We sound like we’re reading off the bottle, but it’s all #truth.
2. Amore Pacific’s Moisture Bound Skin Energy Hydration Delivery System
You know how you’re on the plane and you can literally feel your lips getting super tight and cracked because of the dry air? It’s a little scary to think what the air is doing to your skin. With all the travelling we’ve been doing for fashion month, we decided to hunt down a hydrating mist that actually works – and we found Amore Pacific. Does it replace your regular daytime, non-cream moisturiser? No, but it is good if you need a quick hydration boost, over make-up or otherwise. Light with a lovely scent, we also like spritzing it on just before bed time when the AC is switched on.
3. Kat Von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Bow ‘n’ Arrow
Instead of relying on testers at Sephora – don’t act like you don’t do it! – we finally bit the bullet and bought one of Kat Von D’s widely-raved liquid lipsticks. There are so many long-wear and highly-pigmented liquid lipsticks on the market, the Von D’s really takes the cake for its quick-dry formula that doesn’t feel sticky, thick or drying on the lips. Lolita and Lolita II are the crowd favourites, but we like Bow ‘n’ Arrow because *says in a small voice* it has a bit of that Kylie Jenner Lip Kit touch. Don’t judge!
4. Skin Inc. Pure Revival Peel
The key to getting your favourite masks to work for you is to exfoliate once or twice a week. Slough the dead skin away so that the good stuff gets into your skin unobstructed. Skin Inc.’s Pure Revival Peel is one of those rare ones that exfoliates without leaving the skin feeling unsettlingly tight and dry. That is, you don’t have to worry about scrubbing away too much skin with this. The price is a little steep at SGD$76 per bottle, so those of you who aren’t ready to go all in can opt for the travel-sized one at SGD$25. For 20ml, it is actually not too bad.
5. Zoeva’s Rose Golden Palette
When it comes to eyeshadow palettes, it really boils down to three things: good colours, high pigmentation, reasonably priced. We are big fans of Urban Decay’s Naked and Tarte’s Tartelette, but if you’re looking for something that doesn’t cost a week’s worth of lunch, Zoeva’s Rose Golden is a terrific alternative. Particularly if you’re super into glittery-metallic shades for your eyes. The only downside is that it doesn’t come with a brush, but that’s easily solved. (Zoeva happens to have a whole range of easy-to-use and cheap brushes. There’s a reason why girls are always crowding around the Zoeva shelf at Sephora.)
6. Too Faced’s Primed & Poreless Skin Smoothing Press Powder
It looks deceivingly simple, but it is so many things in one. You can use it alone for light coverage, under foundation as a primer and pore eraser, or over everything as an oil-control finishing powder. It’s a three-in-one! If all that is not enough, it is also paraben-free, adjusts to individual skin tones – and the packaging is adorable!
Psst, we finally got Facebook. Like us over here, maybe?
