The Best of Beauty: Our January Favourites

If one of your New Year's resolutions was to achieve brighter, clearer skin, drop everything and look no further than our top tried-and-tested picks of the month.

Oh January, the month where we make New Year’s resolutions and attempt to adjust back to our working days as we put the festivities behind us. Is it just us or did time whizz by really quickly? During the past month, we’ve tried and tested all the products that came as presents or in the shopping cart under the cloud of our own new year, new me project. Subconsciously, it seems like we used more skincare than anything else, perhaps in a bid to repair and bring life to our tired skin. Slowly but surely, these have definitely made a difference in our lives. Below, we’ve weeded out the playing field and rounded up the ones we loved the most in the last weeks, from renewed old-timers to the new arrivals.

Ouai Rose Hair & Body Oil

Hair oils are a tricky thing. You know it is going to nourish your tresses, but you also worry that you’ll end up looking like you didn’t wash your hair, which is counterintuitive. Ouai’s Rose Hair & Body Oil smells absolutely soothing, is incredibly light and works wonderfully on both dry and damp hair. A little really goes a long, long way with this, so just use one or two pumps even though it doesn’t look like much. Plus, it’s versatile! No need to switch between oils for hair and body.

Chanel Le Blanc Huille Healthy Light Creator Oil

In case you haven’t noticed by now, we’re kind of obsessed with oils here at Team KULALA. (The fact that there are three oils on this list is proof enough.) The latest to join our horde is Chanel’s Le Blanc Huile Healthy Light Creator Oil. Its almost watery like texture is silky and soft on the skin, giving you an instant dewy glow as the ume flower extract in it nourishes and protects your skin. The bottle is travel-friendly, too, perfect for flights!

Fresh Black Tea Firming Overnight Mask

Oh Fresh, will you ever cease to please our skin and senses. Unlike most overnight masks with their gel-like textures, the Black Tea Firming Overnight Mask is creamy and thick, so you know that it’s going to lock moisture in, yet it doesn’t feel greasy when you wake up in the morning. This also goes the extra mile by smoothening the skin after repeated use, so it’s not just hydration. It is pretty pricey, but it is an excellent product if you’re keen on a splurge.

Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate

The third oil on this list also happens to be a serum and a highly raved about one at that, too. Not only does it smell like lavender and could put us to sleep in an instant – it’s scientific! – it’s also the best thing that could happen to our skin. It’s non-greasy, fades those persistent dark spots and leaves you with a healthy and moisturised glow when you wake up in the morning. Better yet, it isn’t too bad on the wallet.

REN Skincare Perfect Canvas Serum

You could probably guess from the name itself that this can be worn as a primer for that smooth finish. Sure it works as a primer, but what is wondrous is that it truly doubles as skincare, hydrating and reducing redness. Its watery texture dries almost instantly upon contact with the skin and leaves a matte finish without the use of silicone ingredients. So, not only is it a nourishing and moisturising serum, it also makes for flawless foundation application. More stuff like this needs to happen!
