The Best of Beauty: Our March Favourites

This month, it was all about spring-ready ingredients and tones – blush pinks, warm browns, sugar, flowers and citrus – that left us looking AND feeling fresh.

There are many things we love about March. One of them is the fact that spring has finally arrived, meaning a ton of flowery frocks and irresistable fragrances. But the truth is that the weather is also getting hotter and hotter, which means a bucket of sweat and even breakouts from the heat. Heat, sweat, sebum – not a pretty picture.

That is why refreshing and hydrating skincare products have made its way into our favourites, helping to cool down the skin and leave us feeling revitalised and rejuvenated. There’s also a new found love for a musky-sweet fragrance and an everyday no-makeup makeup look that couldn’t be achieved without a little blush action to inject a bit of colour for a sun-kissed look. It’s really all about grasping the fresh and youthful glow, all while looking effortless AF. With that said, here are the five that made it to the list that we couldn’t shut up about this month.

Tarte Toasted Eyeshadow Palette

A sweep of colour over the lids can help elevate a no-makeup makeup look into something more jazzy but not overpowering. The Tarte Toasted Eyeshadow Palette helps to do just that with a brown shades bring warmth to the eyes, as suggested by its name. It’s an essential product that has both day and night looks, which is really great for travel. Although there are plenty of brown palettes in the market, this one by Tarte made the cut because it’s highly pigmented, has extremely fine powders that have little to no fall out and are extremely long lasting. The browns and blush-earth tones – very on-trend, by the way – really hit the spot just right.

Marc Jacobs Beauty Air Blush

True to its name, the Marc Jacobs Beauty Air Blush provides a natural and even flush on the skin, free of any uneven splotches. It is a lightweight powder that feels extremely soft on the skin, isn’t too pigmented to provide better control and has a nice sheen from the highlights in the powder. There are two ways to use this blush compact: sweep the brush all over the palette for a quick and natural finish, or use the shades separately as contour and highlights. It has a lovely smell, too.

Dr.Jart+ Water Fuse Hydro Dew Drop

Think of it as a step up from a serum, but not going all-in with face oils. Comprising two layers – a water-based serum with a layer of oil at the top – Dr.Jart+’s newest hydrates the skin and replenishes the skin’s barrier so that the moisture stays locked in. With the oil in the mix, the Water Fuse Hydro Dew Drop feels weightier than regular serums, which is a good thing if you want greater hydration – say, in the daytime – that is still lighter than most gel or cream moisturisers. It absorbs quickly into the skin as well, which makes it even more perfect for daywear under makeup.

Fresh Brown Sugar Eau de Parfum

With a name like Brown Sugar, one might think that Fresh’s unique scent is just overloaded with notes of caramel and other sickeningly sweet notes. But, for all those familiar with Fresh’s products, that is just not their way. The brown sugar – and just a hint of caramel – is there, but it quickly melts away to reveal notes of woodier, citrusy lemon, tangerine, acai, magnolia, honeysuckle, peach nectar, amber and cypress. The wood and citrus notes really balance the sugariness out in a way we haven’t smelled in other fragrances. And the bottle – so pretty! Very Instagram-ready, indeed.

Chanel Le Blanc Masque Healthy Light Creator Mask

There are light creams, and then there’s the Le Blanc Masque Healthy Light Creator Mask. This is a cream moisturiser made for the girl who cannot stand cream moisturisers. The mask feels so light on the fingers and so light on the skin, as though it had been whipped before. We smoothed three light layers of it over the skin and it still didn’t feel heavy. In fact, it absorbed into the skin almost immediately, leaving behind a luminous, glowy sheen that stays on till morning, light – but not oily! – hydration included. The soothing scent of the key ingredient Ume Flower Extract is so addictive, too.
