The Best of Beauty: Our December Favourites

Stop the presses, because we think we may have found the best cushion foundation to date – and it ain't even a cushion foundation!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, where classics endure and new classics are crowned. On our vanity this last month, we found ourselves gravitating toward several directions: on-the-go products that work as well as they look, major hydration and healing without weighing down the skin (so there’s no chance that our party makeup will slip and slide) and one or two classics that never fail, like roast meat on Christmas day and champagne at the stroke of the new year. Below, we rounded up the creme de la creme of this month’s beauty arsenal.

Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Gel Touch Foundation

We know what we said about cushion foundations and all that still stands but this, people, THIS! Structurally, it looks like a cushion, but it is so much more. Unlike the usual sponge cushions, Chanel’s interpretation seals the foundation under a fabric screen which you tap very lightly with an ultra-soft, velvety sponge to dispense. Typical cushion foundations are quick and convenient, but they rarely hold as well as regular liquid foundations. Les Beiges is a totally different story. It is very light, yet it somehow manages to conceal so well, lasts longer than any cushion foundation we’ve ever used, no joke, and it smells so damn good.

Chanel Gabrielle Eau de Parfum

Another score for Chanel – but in the fragrance department. With all the parties we’ve been attending, Chanel’s Gabrielle in the 50ml size is the perfect day-to-night fragrance that we can slip into our bags if we so please, though there really isn’t a need to because the fragrance lasts almost the whole day. With its sleekness and compact size, they make perfect holiday gifts for fragrance collectors, too.

It’S SKIN Power 10 Formula L1 Effector With Liquorice Serum

We love serums here at Team KULALA and we’re always game to try new ones. The latest on our radar is by South Korean label It’S SKIN, specifically the L1 Effector with Liquorice. It is moisturising and it leaves skin dewy and hydrated, but it won’t interfere with your foundation. If you’re looking for serums that focus on specific properties or ingredients, It’S SKIN has a whole range.

Kat Burki Vitamin C Intensive Face Cream

Ever since speaking to Nicolas Travis of cult beauty label Allies of Skin, we’ve been on the look out for all things Vitamin C. (He swears by it and given his amazing skin, we’re listening.) It brightens and firms, but it also heals, making it especially useful for breakouts and irritation that result from travel. This one by Kat Burki is rich in Vitamin C and even though it is a cream, it doesn’t leave a greasy finish and soaks rather quickly into the skin. Smells quite lovely, too!

Kiehl’s Iris Extract Activating Treatment Essence

One of the best things you can do for your skin is to pat in your skincare well and good into those pores. The technique can be applied to any skincare, but essences work best because of how water-like they are. Kiehl’s first and only essence feels like water on the palm, yet leaves lasting hydration. Apparently, its key ingredient, sodium hyaluronate can hold 1,800 its weight in water. However, this essence does contain alcohol, so if you feel a little iffy about that, follow with other hydrating products.

Skin Inc Pure Revival Peel

Who doesn’t love to exfoliate? With all the travelling we did this month, getting of the day’s grime and flakiness from cold air was absolutely necessary. Skin Inc’s Pure Revival Peel has always been our go-to because it works for sensitive skin, but we especially loved the travel size version that is handy and holds more than enough for two weeks of travel.

YSL Beauty Rouge Pur Couture The Mats Lipstick

The last time we put this lipstick in the spotlight, we made it go against the forces of slurping up oily soup. Traditional lipsticks tends to lose out when faced with liquid lipsticks, but this YSL Beauty classic holds its own. It isn’t drying and it actually leaves a nice stain even if the original colour goes away. What’s more, we found that the longer you leave this on, the stronger the stain holds up. That gold packaging screams holiday party, too.
