5 Pretty “Vintage” Pouches And 5 Beauty Products To Wear Them With

With the nineties resurgence comes the return of the severely fuss-free drawstring pouch. Here, five ultra-luxe ones and five ways to match your face to them.

The ’90s were great, weren’t they? Earlier this morning, I woke up to a startling Instagram post of Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid walking out of a party post-nightfall. The former in a holo pink minidress, the latter in a cropped t-shirt. And bike shorts. And a backpack.

While I am nowhere near ready to wear bike shorts outside of the gym, I have to admit to the ease behind Hadid’s look. She didn’t look like she cared. She was just comfortable.

Then, I came to the realisation that dressing up in the nineties was a lot about that: sneakers actually made for walking, minimalist dresses with no fuss, sweats, backpacks and little drawstring bags that passed for wedding dinner and red carpet gear.

Whether you’re ready for it or not, the ’90s are back and a slew of “vintage” along with it. The easiest way to get in besides been-there-done-there sweats? Drawstring bags that you can drop things in, pull the strings and go out the door. No need for a clasp or a zip to keep things in. And, if you have plans to take them out on your next night out, we paired five drawstrings pouches of the mo to five beauty products that’ll slip right in.

Attico Tasseled Sequinned Tulle Pouch

Liquid highlighters are a hint trickier than their powder or cream counterparts, but there is no beating their glow. To match the iridescent sequins, mix Marc Jacobs Beauty’s Dew Drops Coconut Gel Highlighter into your primer, sunblock or foundation for an even radiance on your face, or tap a drop or two onto your cheekbones.

Attico Tasseled Embellished Satin Pouch

A pouch like that needs a dark lip. Instead of the usual dark red or plum, turn the trend on its head with Lipstick Queen’s Black Lace Rabbit lipstick. It may look extremely intense on the bullet, but really just sheerly coats your lips like lace and leaves gold flecks in its trail.

Cult Gaia Poppy Lattice-Trimmed Linen and Silk-Blend Pouch

Are you getting Queen Elsa vibes from this frosty blue lattice drawstring pouch or is it just us? Up the frostiness – and really get into the whole nineties flashback stitch – with Kevyn Aucoin’s The Molten Lip Colour Topcoat in Cyber Sky. Just very lightly tinted blue with plenty of holo, the topcoat can be worn alone or over a lipstick, not unlike Rihanna’s cosmo metallic lips at the recent Met Gala.

Hillier Bartley Lantern Zebra-Print Velvet and Leather Pouch

A different kind of gold and glow compared to the Attico pairing, this one calls for something subtler, more velvety. Pair this zebra-meets-satin-meets-velvet pouch with Hourglass’ Vanish Flash Highlighting Stick in Gold Flash that is so creamy and glides across your cheeks so easily. We like to tap some on the lids as well.

Hunting Season Tula Velvet Shoulder Bag

Perhaps ditch the makeup and go for natural radiance via a spritz of antioxidants instead? Kat Burki’s Super Nutrient Elixir is a blend of rose hip seed, kukui nut and raspberry seed oils, mixed into rose water and hyaluronic acid. Mmmmm. This isn’t your regular face mist – and it’ll slip right into your tiny drawstring bag.
