Meet Fenty Skin’s Holy Trinity of Skincare
The way to shine bright like a diamond, we gather, could be as easy as 1,2,3.| August 30, 2020
Cleansing, toning, and moisturising – it’s the holy trinity of any skincare routine. In Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, you’d find cleansers, toners, and moisturisers at the bottom of the pyramid. It’s stuff you need to get right before you pimp out your routine with oils, serums, facial masks, and the whole nine yards.
This was evidently the starting point for Rihanna when the beauty mogul introduced her much-anticipated skincare line, Fenty Skin, to the world late last month. “Skin-care is self-care,” Riri shared in an interview with Vogue. “I am trying to get people into a ritual. Something that’s really simple — three steps. We start there because skincare can get really complicated. It can get confusing, so I wanted to start with something that would be easy to understand so that people can get right to it.”
In RiRi’s world, no one gets left out – men included. Fenty Skin is a gender-neutral line formulated to work for all skin types, tones, and concerns. To quote the Bad Gal herself, skin is skin. Simplicity at the heart of it all, Fenty Skin is all for multi-taskers. Cleanser that doubles up as a makeup remover; serum as a toner; and moisturiser as sunscreen.
These two-for-one formulas are not ones to skimp on quality. Packed with the natural goodness of natural ingredients sourced from across the globe – Barbados Cherry, Gingko Biloba, and Japanese Raisin Tree, amongst the many – Fenty Skin counts itself amongst the growing crop of green beauty brands. Its sparkling resume further extends to being vegan, cruelty-free and counts as no more than 1 percent of synthetic scents in its formulas.
In theory, Fenty Skin is flawless. To put it to the work, we abandoned our regular routines for Fenty’s trio. Here’s how it faired.
Total Cleans’r Remove-It-All
Skip the makeup remover and jump straight to the cleanser. This multi-tasker is formulated to remove all the gunk from your skin at once. For all the heavy-duty work that it’s capable of, it really doesn’t require a whole lot of product. A small dollop goes a long way. It lathers great and leaves the skin feeling clean and fresh without drying it out. We’re also such suckers for the seamless twist top design.
Fat Water Pore-Refining Toner Serum
Don’t be fooled by its name. The Fat Water Pore-Refining Toner Serum is a lightweight serum packed with antioxidants and vitamins. Having suffered hyperpigmentation herself, RiRi’s toner and serum hybrid is meant to lighten dark spots, minimise pores and lend a healthy glow to the skin. The super absorbent serum disappears into the skin upon application. Serums that tend to leave a residual sticky film on the skin – we avoid at all cost.
Hydra Vizor Invisible Moisturiser Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen
Regardless of your skin colour, sunscreen is a must, must, must. And just as its name suggests, the moisturiser and sunscreen duo is practically invisible on the skin upon application. You won’t see it nor do you really feel it on the skin! Its sleek minimal packaging is also refillable and recyclable – not only does that save us a couple of extra dollars but also does its bid for dear mother earth. We’re completely sold.
