Hell Nuh, Scaly Legs: How To Get Your Legs Super Smooth And Sleek

Take a moment to think about where you focus most of your skincare on. Now, think about where you focus the least skincare on. For the former, it’s probably your face. For the latter, we’re willing to bet that it is your back or your legs. Out of sight, out of mind and all that.
Until very recently, the only thing I own for my lower set of limbs is a spray-on body moisturiser that has been on my shelf for who knows how long. It is practically still full. With Valentine’s Day – and Lunar New Year – coming up, the dress is going to come into the picture, which the legs will be in full view. It is around this time when I am fully conscious about them scales on my legs. Yikes. How on earth did they get there. Scales work on mermaids. I am no mermaid. If you feel me, stay with me.
Depending on how dry your legs are, your situation can vary in painfulness and flakiness. The last thing anyone needs on a beautiful candle-lit evening – or visiting a relative’s house on the first day of the Lunar New Year – is for our knees to start snowing like no tomorrow. Yeesh. Air conditioning makes it worse by ten folds.
The first step to de-scaling your legs is remove your dead skin. Simple as that. In the shower, exfoliate with a scrub of your choice. Something that’s not too coarse will help if you have sensitive skin. Don’t skip this step because you don’t want to end up moisturising your dead skin and end up having all your efforts wash down the drain quite literally.
Follow up with an oil that has argan, rosehip or jojoba in it as these can penetrate the dermis and make sure everything’s well absorbed. Yes, oil. Cream moisturisers are great, but oils just feel lighter whilst working deep and leave that glow on your legs. Test out if it works for you by spreading it onto your skin and observing if it absorbs well or sits on top like a pore-clogging layer. If your legs still feel extra dry, use a cream after the oil has been absorbed to hydrate the upper dermis and lock in all the goodness.
One last tip: put on a pair of loose-fit leggings or pyjama pants before climbing into bed so that you don’t rub everything off over the course of your sleep. Feel free to apply this same routine to your arms, and you should be able to see and feel the difference after two or three days.
