How to Master Dior’s Au Naturale Runway Makeup

Here's the step-by-step guide to nailing the no-makeup makeup look which we'll be wearing all day err day underneath our face masks.

Do you remember the first time you dusted off your long untouched collection of makeup post-quarantine? After weeks, perhaps, months, of living in our au naturale skin with only occasionally putting on the no-makeup makeup look for work conferences, returning to a full face of makeup felt foreign, unnecessary, and even impractical.

Makeup fiends – *insert collective gasp here*.

But let us explain.

We’ve made the rookie mistake of piling on a full face of makeup underneath a face mask. Smudged lipstick by the time we reached our destination and maskne in the days after were far from pretty. We couldn’t just go back to the old ways of doing our makeup and that begs the question: did we ever really need that much makeup anyway? The short answer: no.

During quarantine, we’ve learnt a thing or two about the my skin but better look. And with Miss Rona extending her stay, it might be the only look we’ll be serving in the mask-wearing months ahead. To perfect it, we looked to Dior’s latest Cruise outing.

Like he has in the past, Dior’s Creative and Image Director Peter Philips created a barely-there makeup look but this time accentuating the eye. It couldn’t be more fitting for a time when our eyes are the only prominent feature peeking out of face masks. Starting with the peepers, you want to open them up by curling your lashes and coat just the upper row with the new Diorshow Iconic Overcurl for extra volume.

Then, moving onto the all-important brows. First, you fill it in with light strokes of the Diorshow Brow Styler. Even if you have sparse hairs to begin with, to achieve that effortless, whispy brow look, top off your brows with the Diorshow Pump ‘N’ Brow. With the eyes and the brows completed, you can move onto the rest of your canvas.

Before you go in with the actual makeup, you want to prime the skin with actual skincare. Rather than mimic glowing skin with makeup, work your way towards a natural radiance with Dior’s Capture Totale C.E.L.L. Energy Super Potent Serum followed by the Capture Totale C.E.L.L. Energy Face Cream. Then, follows the routine primer and foundation combination to blur out the imperfections and even out the complexion. For extra coverage, you can spot correct with the Dior Forever Skin Correct. Skip the powder for a dewy, sun-kissed glow.

Finally, the lips. Again, don’t skimp on skincare. Prep the lips with the Dior Lip Sugar Scrub – which you don’t have to wash off – and moisturise with the Lip Glow, a slightly tinted lip balm. You’ll be hydrated underneath the mask and show off a pretty hint of colour when you do eventually take it off.
