How To Do Dior’s Au Naturale Runway Makeupby Candice Chua
Once again, the no-makeup makeup look triumphs on the runway. You know the one: little to no eye makeup, natural lips and just a hint of highlight to give skin that covetable glow. It is a look that, when done right, can be so beautiful even though it looks like you’ve got nothing on. It is all about emphasising, not masking, so says Dior’s Creative and Image Director Peter Philips.
For her third runway show at Dior, Maria Grazia Chiuri’s girls had that precise au naturale look, topped with a mop of soft, curly tresses that my dead straight Asian hair will never become. The roadmap to the makeup was simple and straightforward, just the way we like it. (Honestly, can someone just give me hair like that? Like, for a day! I’m not asking for forever!)
You begin with the Diorskin Forever & Ever Wear Primer, then go in with the Diorskin Forever Perfect Cushion. We’ve raved about the latter before, but if you need heavier coverage, we personally recommend going for the Diorskin Forever Fluid Foundation. Conceal where necessary – Fix It and Flash Luminiser were used on the runway – before topping off with the Diorskin Nude Air Luminser on spot where light likes to hit for that ethereal, girlish glow.
Brows are extremely important when you’re going for that au naturale look. Don’t know about you, but we look quite ghostly and half-awake if we don’t at least fill them in on an off-duty day. For this, Dior used the Diorshow Brow Styler. Eyes were kept clean, save for the Diorshow Pump ‘n’ Volume mascara – among the reigning champs in our mascara Hall of Fame – on the lashes.
Finally, the lips. Dior used the new Dior Addict Lip Sugar Scrub first – this one doesn’t have to be washed off, FYI – followed by the Lip Glow, a very slightly tinted lip balm. If you barely have time to finish that last bite of croissant, go for one or the other. Both give you hydration for hours. (I swear, SWEAR by the Lip Glow. I’ll stake my new Gucci shoes that I recently acquired during the course of Milan Fashion Week on it.)
