WATCH: Lancome’s Matte Shaker Is The Most Fun You’ll Have With A Lipstick
Every bottle packs high intensity colour with incredible staying power, yet feels like nothing at all on the lips. In collaboration with Lancome.| June 14, 2017
There are good lipsticks, and then there are Lancome’s Matte Lip Shakers. Before we go any further, we’re just going to come right out and say that these are the most fun you’ll ever have with a liquid lipstick. There’s none of that old-school wand-applicator-in-a-tube stuff. Instead, you have to turn these little babies on their heads and give them a good shake to get the liquid lipstick out. There’s even a clicking noise. Intrigued? We’re just getting started.
The shaking part is cute, but we think it’s also there to help control the amount of lipstick that goes onto the cushion brush and later, your lips. There’s absolutely no need to go to town with the shaking, though, because the lipstick is so well pigmented. Just one to two swipes and the colour comes through. Want greater intensity? Pop the cap back on the bottle, shake it, uncap and dab the cushion brush on your lips to build to the intensity you want.
Speaking of cushions, the Matte Shaker’s spongy applicator is really something else. Think of it as a beauty cushion, but for your lips. It is so soft and, coupled with the super smooth and hydrating lipstick formula, glides so easily and precisely across the lips. There wasn’t even a need for us to apply any lip balm prior to testing it out.

Of course, the Matte Shaker’s winning quality lies in its formula. Anyone can do a highly pigmented liquid lipstick, but one that feels like nothing at all on your lips? Lancome is a tough one to beat. Fans of this wildly popular series – they were almost sold out the last time we checked the stores – like to say that the lipstick is like second skin, and that’s exactly what it feels like. It feels like water and melts into your lips, almost. Just give it a minute to dry and you’ll have a smooth, matte, non-sticky yet incredibly lightweight finish. This is something that not even the best liquid lipsticks we’ve tried can do.
Finally, the one quality that can make or break a liquid lipstick: its staying power. Not only does Lancome’s Matte Shaker fit like a glove, it also stays on like a glove. It just doesn’t budge. The “original” lipstick layer may come off with eating, but that hardly even matters because it leaves behind a gorgeous, bright tint. We also noticed that the lipstick formula had a blurring effect on the lines on our lips, even when it became a tint. Colour us impressed.

The only thing left for Lancome to do? Release it in more colours so we have more options to play around with. (Honestly, we think it’s just a matter of time before they do.) Until then, we’re leaving our lips in the hands of Energy Peach, Beige Vintage and Red’y in 5.
