How To Look Your Freshest After Getting Off The Plane

It’s all about hydration, hydration and hydration. Look fresher than you did before getting on with our red-eye flight beautiful essentials.

If you are a frequent traveller, you will understand how brutal travelling can get sometimes. Whether it’s delayed flights, missing luggage or the lack of proper rest, the last thing we want is a new pimple on our face. That, and patches of flakey skin. The horror.

I remember getting new bumps after just a six-hour plane ride despite all my efforts to avoid touching my face during the flight or letting any of it touch the seat cushion. I never really understood what caused the breakouts – until I did my research. Did you know that your skin is constantly exposed to recycled air once you take off? While I can’t even begin to phantom all the nasty particles that settled on my skin during the ride, I guess a lesson came out of it: the importance of prevention and hydration. After all, if a six-hour plane ride is enough to leave your lips feeling plastic and dry, what more your skin? What more your skin on an overnight flight?

Prevention is always better than cure, especially when it comes to long flights. Call us high maintenance, but we’re not taking any chances. We’re always on the look out for the next best product, but our in-flight survival beauty kit almost always includes these: a cleanser to start with a clean face, toner and a night moisturiser for hydration, eye cream to deal with the eye bags and a final mask to lock everything in. Then and only then are you ready to slip on the eye mask and call it a night. Of course, always remember to drink plenty of water and get plenty of rest, the most natural of ways to get fresh skin. Start building your kit with our round-up below.

Fresh Soy Face Cleanser

Start off your skincare regimen by cleansing away those nasty pollutants with Fresh Soy Face Cleanser. The gel cleanser acts as multi-tasking cleanser not only removes impurities, but also sooth and softens your skin for a radiant complexion. Everyone we know who has ever used it is still using it to this day.

Caudalie Beauty Elixir

When you are on the plane, you want to minimize hand contact with your face as much as possible. Spritz on Caudalie’s Beauty Elixir and quickly pat in the goodness (with clean hands!). This plant-based beauty mist will combat dryness and tighten pores – it’s the perfect in-flight hydrator that smells amazing and fits right into your carry-on.

Allies of Skin Night Moisturiser

Fancy waking up to a healthy dose of glow the next morning? The Allies of Skin Night Moisturiser is your best bet. Packed with cell-energising reparative actives and formulated with the brand’s patented Retinol, this tube is perfect for long-haul flight.

Eve Lom Eye Cream

We can’t further emphasis the importance of eye creams and the way we see it, it is never too early to start getting into the habit of slathering some on. Again, prevention is key. Packed with Swiss Garden Cress extracts and rosehip oil, the Eve Lom Eye Cream helps to combat dehydration while improving appearance of fine lines and creating an even skin tone. Don’t forget to massage the cream into your skin for better absorption.

Dr. Jart Rubber Mask

Lock in all that moisturiser with this playful bright blue mask from Dr. Jart Rubber, packed with a high concentrated ampoule serum that will leave your skin glowing just minutes later. The algae extracts cool and calm the skin, prefect for preventing breakouts and calming irritated skin. Who says skincare has to be serious?

Slip Silk Eye Mask

Whether it’s a crying baby or snoring seat buddy, plug in to Spotify and shut the lights off with Slip’s luxurious Silk Eye Mask made with the highest grade of mulberry silk to ensure that you get the sleep you deserve. Silk means you won’t get those embarrassing albeit hilarious sleep marks on your face.

Glossier Balm Dotcom

When it comes to no-frills ingredients and packaging, Glossier does it like no other. The Balm Dotcom is a cult favourite and it’s basically all we need as a lip balm or lip primer. We’re extremely picky when it comes to lip balms and Glossier’s is a long-standing favourite. And it comes in threes! The best things come in threes!
