Make Up For Ever’s Skin Booster Is The Serum You Never Knew You Needed

Just a few drops and it'll turn your foundation into a tinted moisturiser and illuminator. Furrealz. Our reader Hilary tells us exactly what she thinks.

Welcome to KULALA Beauty Club, where YOU our dear readers help us suss out the best in the beautysphere. This week, we have Hilary See (@hlrys) and her review of Make Up For Ever’s Ultra HD Skin Booster and Lip Booster. Hilary is a writer and an avid fan of all things cute, sparkly and gold. In her free time, you’ll find her curating #OOTDs and #flatlays for her pastel themed Instagram account.

Over the years and many Youtube tutorials later, I’ve learnt that a solid skincare regimen is half the battle won when you’re trying to achieve a flawless complexion. Hydration is key to keeping your skin looking dewy and feeling supple, which is why I swear by serums.

The newest addition to my morning skincare routine is the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Skin Booster, a concentrated formula of all the hydrating ingredients you’ve heard before (hyaluronic acid, argan oil extract etc.) in one bottle. According to the brand, the serum promises to plump up the skin while boosting its radiance and luminosity. I’m not too hopeful that it can achieve all three, but if it allows me to skip applying all other moisturising products and sleep in for that extra 15 minutes, I’ll gladly take up the offer.

Instructions say you can use the serum alone or mix a few drops with your liquid foundation. I tried both ways and preferred to pat it into my skin gently after toner — the SK-II style — before waiting for the translucent, almost water-like serum to be fully absorbed before going in with sunscreen.

While waiting for the serum to fully sink in, I worked on creating an equally supple canvas for my lipstick to glide on smoothly. After going in with a lip scrub to rid the lips of any dead skin, I apply a thin layer of the Make Up For Ever Lip Booster that is said to hydrate, smooth and add fullness to the lips. I love how the angled, slightly wider dofer applicator applies the translucent, glossy and slightly creamy texture serum with ease, leaving my lips instantly feeling oh-so smooth.

While the Make Up For Ever Lip Booster doesn’t give a dramatic lip plumping effect, I’m happy with the way it leaves my lips feeling buttery soft throughout the day, even when I’m sporting a matte lip. The Make Up For Ever Skin Booster is a total game-changer for those who abide by the “less is more” rule for skincare. It delivers what it promises — I’ve got what seems like a subtle glowing tint to my skin and it feels hydrated throughout the day, even if I’m in air-conditioned settings for long periods of time.
