What Kind of Audacious Are You?
We gave KULALA Beauty Clubber Xue four fresh NARS Audacious lipstick shades to play around with. Guess which one came out tops?| January 25, 2017
Welcome to KULALA Beauty Club, where YOU our dear readers help us suss out the best in the beautysphere. This week, we have Xue (@grumpymeg) and her review of the NARS Audacious Lipstick in four beautiful colours. Xue is a mild and easily amused Instagram-addict with an obsession with all things starry.
Anyone who takes a look at my teeny stash of cosmetics will be able to tell that the lipstick is my favourite form of makeup. It instantly brings so much colour and life to your bare face. Even if you have flawless skin, you can still look pretty pale, unless you have natural cherry lips, that is. If so, lucky you!
Still, I’m sure even Snow White would have loved the NARS Audacious Lipstick collection if it existed back in her day. After all, there are so many hues of red to choose from – there’s at least one gorgeous shade for everybody!
I’ve never bought one for myself prior to this review, but I’ve heard about their intense pigments and lasting power, and I’ve also seen the sleek and timeless packaging. So, I was really pleased to receive four of these beauties in my KULALA Beauty Pack, in shades Juliette, Kelly, Grace and Carmen.
I immediately put Juliette, the lightest shade of the bunch, to the test. As a nude-ish coral, I thought it would be the most forgiving colour for a rookie like me. Full on, I thought the colour was vibrant with an orange tone to it. I thought it would be more neutral and toned down, but it turned out to be a really refreshing shade.
I really like how Kelly turned out. I thought it would be too pink for my liking, but it is a lot more muted and complements my medium-beige skin.
I love how pigmented the lipsticks are. The results are immediate with one swipe. The lipsticks glide on pretty smoothly even though I didn’t have lip balm on, and that’s a plus point. Unfortunately, they aren’t transfer-proof and do stain easily. The colour at the centre of my lips rubbed off after a meal. However, I do like how they don’t dry my lips out, especially with an added layer of lip balm under the colours.
My favourite shades? The Juliette and Kelly! I was most pleasantly surprised by the colour payoff. They are the easiest to apply on the go, too. I do like Carmen and Grace, but ain’t nobody got time to check the mirror every hour to see if their lipstick has smudged, y’know? Ultimately, with 41 more shades and test out and acquire from the Audacious collection, I can definitely see myself getting more of these sleek babies.
