How Pregnancy Changed The Choices In My Beauty Shopping Cart

Good bye, fuss. It's all about keeping things light and simple with plenty of essential oils and plant extracts.

Things are happening so fast. In a blink of an eye, I am in my third trimester and getting closer and closer to seeing my little boy. If you’ve been following my Instagram Stories, you would have seen a bit of the behind-the-scenes from our baby shopping. It has been such an exciting experience. In the last couple of weeks, I’ve gotten some questions about my pregnancy skincare routine, so here I am to spill the beans.

Naturally as the body changes along with the hormones, the beauty choices change as well. While a good part of my routine stays the same, I find myself leaning more towards products with natural ingredients. The most important products in my arsenal is the Stretch Mark Minimizer and Tonic Body Treatment Oil from Clarins for the belly area. These are chockfull of plant extracts that nourish, calm and moisturise the skin as it works on reducing stretch marks and preventing new ones. I apply two layers of each once in the day and then again at night for extra measure.

I count myself lucky that I haven’t had much problem with water retention so far. Touch wood! When the rest of my body does feel bloated, I whip out body creams like the Extra-Firming Body Cream from Clarins and Precipitation Continuous Moisture Recovery from Origins, both with a variety of plant ingredients, and massage them into my skin. My shampoo and conditioner choices have moved toward the natural department as well with a little-known brand called Organic Matter as it has no fragrance and no chemicals. That is really what I’m going for.

Again, I count myself very lucky that I have had no breakouts as well. However, I have started to streamline my makeup routine just in case, going for far fewer products and lighter coverage to avoid clogging the pores. I have stopped using regular liquid foundations in favour of cushions. (The one from NARS is my favourite.) Blushers are always great for a instant, natural flush to the face, but instead of powders, I use Benefit’s Benetint.

That is my new momma-to-be beauty routine in a nutshell! Dear fellow mommies: what are some of your favourite products during your pregnancy?
