12 Super Fresh Ways To Layer Like A Boss

Because old clothes + old clothes = NEW CLOTHES! It's time to revive those things that you've worn to death.

In a recent interview with Vogue.com, Yoyo talked about how living in Singapore teaches you to layer within your means. We don’t get the fur and wool coats, but we do what we can. (I mean, you could wear fur, but the possibility of a heatstroke is right there behind you.) A slip over t-shirt, a bralet over a button-down shirt, a barebacked bodysuit under mom jeans etc. But what else? What else? From what we saw at fashion week, it seems like there’s still an entire trove of untapped layering options.

The best part? It’s the perfect way to revive that one thing you’ve worn to death, or that one thing you once loved but now can’t stand to look at. Add something old to something old and poof – you get something new! It’s fashion math. As temperatures at our end of the world begin to cool just ever so slightly, why don’t you consider…

Layering a vintage bralet and checked pencil skirt over a short-sleeved knit? Casually – very casually – throw on a denim jacket for that Balenciaga touch. (Someone hand Taylor Tomasi Hill an award for this outfit, because honestly.)

Treating your cardigan like silly putty and turning it into a makeshift bralet to wear over button-down shirts? Don’t forget to roll up those sleeves tight.

Pairing that vintage Clueless blazer with a forgotten merch t-shirt and baggy velvet pants? It shouldn’t work, but it does.

Wearing that silky slip – that shows maybe a little too much – over an exposed-zip something and flared culottes for extra volume?

Giving that strapless pencil dress character by layering it over an unbuttoned cardigan, with a belt right under the boobs?

Making full use of that very on-trend – but maybe a little pricey – cold-shoulder dress (we like this, this and this) by wearing it over a polo neck and your ratty old denims?

Boy-ing up that ruffled shirt with a razor-sharp pinstripe bustier and loose checked trousers?

Turning camo print into something feminine by pairing it with a see-through lace skirt?

Elevating your worn-to-death denim shirt with an off-shoulder jacket – you don’t need Balenciaga for this, though – and the season’s velvet?

It’s a whole new world of possibilities, man. A whole new world. Tell us how you plan to layer your favourite new pieces of the season with your wardrobe classics in the comments below! (Don’t forget to like us on Facebook too, so you don’t miss a single update.)
