A Study In Street Style: Chiara Totire
The wardrobe classics with sides of androgyny, bohemian sensibilities and unassuming cool: herein lies an Italian woman who could very well be your next style crush.| June 21, 2018
They say the best runway is the one on the streets. The runway is where the official action happens, but it is on the streets that real style, worn by real people, is born. In “A Study In Street Style”, we turn the spotlight on some of the most notable street style stars of industry. If ever you’re dry on outfit inspiration, just check back here. We guarantee you’ll leave with at least a handful of styling ideas. That, or your (imaginary) money back.
When it comes to spinning oversized outerwear in a tasteful manner, it seems like Chiara Totire is in her own game. Her sartorial style decoded: bohemian, androgynous, pretty badass but still a little quirky and definitely not one to shy away from experimenting.
A stylist at Vogue Japan – often seen walking side-by-side with Anna Dello Russo – the Italian has been a street style regular for years, though the reason why you would stop to take a second look at her is quite different from the usual. Sure, there are the occasional statement pieces, but a good chunk of Totire’s allure lies in her attitude and how that accentuates her looks. She is just…cool. That, and an exceptional knack for joojing up classics and neutrals.
Totire’s repertoire includes masculine leather jackets, killer boots and jeans, but we’re also seeing shaggy bohemian coats, floral dresses, patterned sweaters and earthy tones like rust and olive. All of that comes together with an elegance that is comfortable and laid-back. Something tells us that Totire is a fan of the new Chloe under Natacha Ramsay Levi. Hmm.
Aside from her mad layering skills and quintessential cool, perhaps what makes Totire such fun to follow is that she tries new things even though she has a “look”. Also, fun fact: she was once pharmacist. That may or may not explain why she has been spotted in off-white coats that would be the lab coat’s far fancier cousin. Below, we’ve selected some picks that we think Chiara Totire would approve of.
