A Study In Street Style: Julie Pelipas

Vogue Ukraine's director sure knows how to combine the unexpected, yet pull it off effortlessly with a sensibility that speaks of minimalism, chic and the all-important balance.

They say the best runway is the one on the streets. The runway is where the official action happens, but it is on the streets that real style, worn by real people, is born. In “A Study In Street Style”, we turn the spotlight on some of the most notable street style stars of industry. If ever you’re dry on outfit inspiration, just check back here. We guarantee you’ll leave with at least a handful of styling ideas. That, or your (imaginary) money back.

Standing tall and lean is street style star Julie Pelipas, whom you might pass by, take a second look, a third look and conclude that she has to be somebody. A model, maybe. But, a model she is not and the director of Vogue Ukraine she is instead. Oft spotted in Celine with a side of polish and unassuming cool, Pelipas is a shoo-in for the “best of” lists come fashion week season.

Pelipas has a style that embody what most people aim for – effortlessness, classic and minimal, but at the same time forward. It is like a dressier version of everyday clothes, pimped with revamped classics like an asymmetrical blazer, a sweater that peeks out just a little bit too much at the sleeve cuffs, the classic blazer and turtleneck combo made feminine with a pink dress.

It is clear that trends aren’t her game. “I don’t actually shop that often; I try to follow Vivienne Westwood’s rule that you should buy less, choose well and make it last,” she once said in an interview with Net-a-Porter.

So there you go, lots of other street style stars live by the “less is more” rule, too so take notes. From what we see, belt your jackets, french tuck your shirts and wear your sneakers whenever you like, even if you’re wearing a suit. From oversized Balenciaga blazers to essential gold earrings, we’ve picked out a few pieces we think Pelipas would approve of.
