Making The Case For Anti-Fall Colours, Because Why The Heck Not?

Someone once told me the grass was much greener on fall's side, but now that it's almost here, I've only got bright colours on my mind.

Cartoons can teach you very valuable lessons despite how they might appear. Approximately two decades ago, a certain cartoon called As Told By Ginger landed onto my consciousness. Most of the plot is a blur, but ohthat theme song. I never forgot it. It goes mostly like this: Someone once told me the grass was much greener, on the other side. So, I paid a visit, well, it’s possible I missed it, it seemed different yet exactly the same. Deep truth. From a children’s cartoon!

Even now, each time I find myself in a “the grass is always greener on the other side” situation, I think about that theme song. How we often have one thing, but wish for the other thing we once had. Then, once we have that other thing, we wish for that one thing back again.

Case in point: fall colours. We wish for it any time outside of the fall season, and yet when fall finally does arrive, we feel ourselves veering towards the traditionally “spring” or “summer” colours. Humans. We’ll never be satisfied.

For this sudden and recent preference for bright colours, we hold the crowd at Stockholm Fashion Week responsible. Yellow with green! Orange with pastel blue! Yellow and fuchsia! Green and lavender! Pink! A lot of it! The Swedes do not care for staying within the box marked “fall” and as long as we’re kept warm when we have to be, we’re following their lead.
