Chanel’s Hamburg Collection, As Told Through Our Top Accessory Picks
We took some of the slickest and suh-weetest accessories from the new Metiers d'Art in Hamburg collection out for a good ol' spin. In collaboration with Chanel.| May 15, 2018
On Chanel’s Metiers d’Art collections, Karl Lagerfeld was once quoted saying, “I think the image of this collection is reflected through this finesse which has to be seen up close, almost touched, to understand how it is done and to really appreciate the beauty of this work.”
Aye, aye, sir!
The only one of its kind on the fashion calendar, the Metier’s d’Art is Chanel’s way of turning the spotlight onto the craftsmanship and expertise of its team of ateliers, from the tweed makers and embroiderers to the milliners. A different city is picked each year, with the collection itself making multiple references to its host. (For a crash course on Chanel’s Metiers d’Art, click here.)
The latest is the bustling port city of Hamburg, Germany. Ships, sailors, anchors, ropes, the like. And, yes, we’re taking a cue from Mr. Lagerfeld: the pieces must be seen up close and touched, whether it’s a bow of pearls on a feminine black ankle boot, or teardrop pearls on a brooch shaped like a six-spoke ship wheel.
Like the clothing which toed the line between masculine and feminine, the accessories were a balance of delicate and bold. For the second instalment of our “Chanel In Hamburg” series – see the first here – we picked out some of our favourite accessories from the stunning collection and took them around our favourite haunts in our city. See what happened below, then keep your eyes peeled as we explore more of Chanel’s Metiers d’Art Hamburg collection in the weeks to come.
