5 Very Big Pants, 5 Very Small Bags, 5 Spring Personalities

One is dramatic and billowy, the other a statement in its succinctness. Put the two together and you have a foolproof combo to walk straight into spring with.

Juxtapositions are what the fashion industry thrives on. Masculinity and femininity. Maximalism and minimalism. Fluidity and structure. Bold and subtle. Casual and dressy. Oftentimes when polar opposites come together, we get something new, something refreshing. A new way to dress and a new way to look at clothes, if you will.

There I was, on a regular afternoon, thinking about spring and what were some of the pieces I wanted to go for, since I was long overdue for a little splurgy-splurge. (I know women use this “long overdue” excuse a lot, but 85 percent of my Visa bill were groceries for the last two months, so my claim is legit.) Did I want to put both feet into a whirlpool of ruffles, beach stripes and florals? What about the baskets?

Each time I find myself ready to give in to that “idealised” way of dressing for spring, my brain stops myself and says, “Eurgh, but pants, though! They’re so much easier! What if spring weather brings rain and I have to run to the nearest shelter? Pants would make so much more sense in such a situation! But murgh, spring dresses! Internal struggle!”

Of course, there are ways to get the best of both worlds without completely giving in to both sides. Enter big pants. They’re easy breezy with plenty of ventilation, then multiply that even more with a tiny bag with a top-handle, because no bag says carefree and “take it and go” than a top handle micro that only allows the essentials. With just two things, you get a look that is easy and comfortable, yet polished and dramatic. It’s 100 percent anywhere-approproaite.

It is also a combination that works. One thrives on being billowy and big. The other thrives on being tiny and succinct. Put them together, they both stand out. A perfect contrast. Juxtaposition. *waves spirit fingers*
