Brand to Know: Anine Bing
The Los Angeles-based label references the model-off-duty look to alleviate an everyday uniform – tank tops, slim-cut jeans, leather jackets are key ingredients.| August 14, 2020
Wardrobe basics are the hallmarks of the model off-duty look. Sure, the style vocabulary of the supermodels of today might be far-reaching than just that but if you were to strip it down to its core, you’d arrive at a formula of non-descript t-shirts, tank tops, hoodies, leather jackets, and denim jeans. This was the starting point for Anine Bing, a former model herself, when she conceived her eponymous label in 2012.
Success came early for Bing, who struck gold on Instagram. Being amongst the pioneering coterie of models who had built a following in the fashion blogsphere for their off-duty style, Bing was no stranger to the digital space. Leaning onto her marketing know-how, she went on to built a formidable presence for her line of luxurious staple wear. Then, considered, a commendable feat for a brand in the days of its infancy.
Since its premature shot to fame, the Los Angeles based label has been on an upward trajectory to success. Today, at eight years old, the brand finds itself sold in more than 350 stores across the globe including industry heavyweights like Net-a-Porter and Nordstrom. Anine Bing would also go on to become a crowd favourite amongst – you guessed it – the supermodel set, winning the seal of approval from the likes of Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.
And it’s easy to see why. Anine Bing’s repertoire of understated, timeless pieces, while superior in cut and quality, come with fairly affordable price tags. Keeping in mind that the denim jeans, silk midi skirts, and supple leather motor jackets in the brand’s line-up are pieces you’d keep going back to, it’s money worth parting with. Even when Bing occasionally dips her toes into trends, she renders it through her signature lense of parred back minimalism. For instance, at Anine Bing, the zebra print is reiterated in a netural palette.
Led by a time-transcending design acumen, Anine Bing continues to chart growth even nearly a decade into the business.
