3 Eyewear Brands To Know That Are (Already) Taking Over Instagram
There's not a day where you can scroll through your feed without chancing upon one or two or five of these. Double tap!| February 5, 2018
Like eyebrows, sunglasses are essential to the off-duty life. When you are just in zero mood or have not time to put on your face, sunglasses swoop in to save the day and shield you from the prying eyes of world. However, sunglasses are more than just practical. Even more so in our age of street style, It girls and Instagram. These amalgamations of plastic, metal and sometimes glass have gone beyond the sun shades they were invented to be to becoming the outfit. As such, the aviator, the simple cat-eye or John Lennon circle frames just won’t do anymore. The ante has to be upped.
The surest way to determine if a particular brand of anything is certified cool is to get the It girl stamp of approval. The same law applies to sunglasses. Looking at you, Hadid, Jenner, Gomez and Knowles. Don’t worry, you still get to keep the old-timers like Ray-Bans and Le Specs, but if you’re looking to expand your accessorising horizons, here are the trend-setting ones leading the pack.
You may or may not have heard of this South Korean cult brand, but it’s gained massive popularity over the past two years. The first time we really took notice of it was when Jun Ji Hyun – the main actress from the popular K-drama My Love From The Star – donned a couple of their shades on screen. From then on, everyone from Gigi Hadid, Rihanna, Kendall Jenner and Aimee Song have worn their designs. We really do mean everyone. (I recently bought a pair and I am living for it.) Ranging from the ever-essential sleek black shades to futuristic tinted metals to their recent released ragingly popular “Red Wide Open” collection, there’s not one pair on their site that we wouldn’t want to rock.
It’s become almost impossible to scroll through Instagram without coming across one of Poppy Lissiman‘s designs, most notably the Le Skinny. That flat, narrow one that is shape at the tips – yeah, you know the one. Not for the faint of heart, her retro-maximalism designs have garnered the attention of the Hadid sisters, Emily Ratajkowski, Gwen Stefani, Rita Ora and with more being added to the list every day. If you had to splurge on a pair, any one of Poppy Lissiman’s designs are probably it.
Illesteva isn’t the most recognisable brand out of the lot, but it’s definitely had the experience around celebrities. Beyoncé, Cara Delevigne, Karlie Kloss, Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid and even Sasha Obama are fans of their modernised classic designs. They are by no means short of trendier designs either, and have a good selection of old-school shapes that we love. (Fun fact: they make ski masks!) If Queen Bey approves – and she has, repeatedly – then we see no reason not to approve.
