Brand To Know: Petar Petrov
Those amazeballs gold pants you're seeing on everyone from Irene Kim to Caroline de Maigret? He made them and we're OBSESSED.| September 20, 2017
Mention Petar Petrov to any fashion editor and an immaculate tailored suit comprising a double-breasted blazer with exaggerated buttons and a cropped wide trouser comes to mind. If you are still lost, here’s a clue: remember the gold leather pants sported by Irene Kim and Caroline de Maigret just two weeks back? Yes? They were also by Petrov and they basically lit up the streets of New York.
Launched in 2009, the womenswear label designer started honing his craft at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. “I was lucky to have teachers such as Viktor & Rolf and Raf Simons. Their strong vision of fashion influenced me a great deal,” he mentions in an interview with Global Blue. However, the real MVP of the Ukraine-born designer is his mother. Petrov attested his love for tailoring first started with her, who is currently helping Petrov produce the complicated pieces in his collection at their small studio in Bulgaria.
The androgynous attitude and clean aesthetic can be observed in his recent Fall/Winter ’17 collection, where plenty of textures came to play – incorporation of silk, suede and shearling to layered metallics. Designing with the woman in mind, these heavy-duty and high quality fabrics are made to complement other wardrobe essentials that will take you through the seasons and through the years even. That being said, Petrov has stayed true to his vision of a timeless appeal. Keep an eye on this one, because we’re expecting to see his pieces more and more on the streets this fashion month.
