Bulgari Proves That Ultra-Luxury Can Still Be Super Fun

We got up-close and personal with the jewellery house's vivid Spring/Summer 2017 collection. Is that a coconut falling off a tree, we hear?

It seems like tropical fever has hit Milan. We counted at least three Spring/Summer 2017 collections inspired by it in the last week, though the one that proved the most refreshing was Bulgari. The showroom at the Bulgari Hotel even had a towering glass case filled with foliage – real or not, that we cannot confirm – with gold Serpenti bracelets casually resting on the branches. Very Jungle Book. Who says high jewellery and jewellery bags have to be all sombre and serious? It is like what new ambassador Lily Aldridge said in our interview with her in New York – Bulgari is one jewellery house that likes experimenting with colours.

For the coming season, the Italian house introduces its Serpenti bags in punchy shades of pinks, cool blues and forest greens. Candy-coloured stones, flowers and tassels fill in the detail department. Black stones on the little Serpenti works great – especially on Fall/Winter’s rose quartz edition, oomph – but switching it up with green and blue stones actually lends the bag a kooky, quirky touch. The frameless sunglasses with snakes slithering along the top were plenty fun, too. Throwing in surprises here and there is what keeps the gears turning at a house as storied as Bulgari. Scroll through the gallery above to see some of the highlights from the all-new collection – and let us know what you think!
