We Took Chanel’s Cruise 2018 From Ancient Greece To The Streets
The collection has us dreaming of the golden sun, sand and ancient pillars, right in the heart of the city. In collaboration with Chanel.
| December 19, 2017A couple of months ago, I flew to Paris for Chanel’s Cruise 2018 show. Chanel – and Mr. Karl Lagerfeld – have that magical ability to transport you to anywhere, any time and on that one day at the Grand Palais, they brought us to Ancient Greece. The Chanel girls were goddesses and gladiators, dressed in gold corsets, featherlight togas and sandals that laced all the way up to the knees. There was sand, there were trees and there were old Greek columns.
Strangely enough, the first thing I thought of after getting over the thrill of the show was how interesting these pieces would look in a completely different setting. Say, the streets of a bustling city? It may have been labelled “Cruise”, but like the many cruise collections before it, Chanel’s pieces are never tied to a specific season or place, even if it was inspired by one. Timeless is the word here.
Below, I take some of my favourite ready-to-wear pieces and accessories from the collection, mix them wth my wardrobe, and set them against a hidden locale in the heart of our busy city. If you can’t take your eyes off the owl clutch and metal choker, you’re not alone. Christmas wish list, perhaps?
