Everyone Is Wearing The New Balenciaga
Here's how the street set is styling Demna Gvasalia's debut collection for the Spanish house.| November 8, 2016
Platforms thicker than a slab of butter! Safety pins for earrings! Stirrups from the 1970s! Pasar malam bags – but in leather! Thanks to Demna Gvasalia, all of the above are now the cool kids on the block. Who would’ve thunk? You don’t have to like what the Georgian-born designer does, but there’s no denying his rapid rise to fashion stardom. The feats he accomplished with Vetements and Balenciaga in the last year alone is one for the history books. Suddenly, we all feel a need to buy hoodies by the pound, wear our jackets like the off-shoulders they’re not and fit socks over our favourite boots. (Balenciaga or Vetements reference, we’ll let you figure that out.)
Has it really only been two runway collections since his entry into Balenciaga? With all the hype surrounding Gvasalia throughout the year, it seems so much longer. It seemed like every one in ten at fashion week had some measure of the new Balenciaga on. I’m still waiting for my pair of stirrup jeans to drop from the sky. Oh, the things I would do with it. Please, skies? I’ve been good all yeeeeeeeear!
From tartan suits that stick out at the hips and off-shoulder jackets to platform boots and stirrup pants, see how the street style set are styling their favourites from the new Balenciaga. From what we can tell, you either go with the flow – that is, go thigh-deep in Balenciaga – or style them with everyday pieces. A white shirt, a knit dress, a pair of jeans, a trench coat. Easy peasy, lemon squeeeeeezy.
