5 Fool-Proof Outfit Formulas For When You Have “Nothing To Wear”

Just us or is it harder to get out of bed now that holiday season is here? These no-brainer but tres chic outfit formulas were made for late mornings.

Waking up late doesn’t end in pretty. Mornings that start in a hurried rush and with disheveled hair cannot get any worse when you realise that you’re meeting a client at the office. The worst thing that could possibly cause a slip up with Mr. Time, now, would be standing in front of your wardrobe thinking, “Heavens, I have nothing to wear.” WHY NOW, OF ALL TIMES? Nothing is metaphorical, because we all know that your wardrobe is full.

Days like these we fall back on go-to, so much so that people know you had a late start to your day because you have your “late morning” outfit. Outfit formulas are great – they’re quick and they work. To trick people into thinking that you’ve got your sh-t together on most mornings, though, you’ll need an entire arsenal of outfit formulas that adapt and have the ability to look different every morning even though they boil down to the same silhouette.

So, keep these formulas at the back of your hand. You’ll look fly, but you’ll also have your hair in place because you only had to put on one look. Besides these formulas, you’ll need a capsule wardrobe of sorts, too to put them together: oversized blazers, pop colours, turtlenecks, wide-leg pants, white shirts, minimal skirts, skirts with a twist and, because it is a fall, that one coat that goes with everything.

#1: Graphic Tee + Printed Skirt + Cap

A graphic tee is a staple and can be found in everyone’s closet. Paired with a matching printed skirt and topped off with a cap or hat – hats are great outfit fixers, consider them –there’s not much that can go wrong with this outfit.

#2: Midi Dress + Turtleneck + Pencil Skirt

Colour co-ordination is really important in this formula. A neutral coloured turtleneck will not only add an interesting twist, but also keep you nice and toasty. Pulling on a pencil skirt will instantly make your dress look more polished and sleek.

#3: Midi Skirt + Jacket + Sock Boots

If you’re looking to steal the limelight and be the centre of attention everywhere you go, this outfit’s for you. The black jacket will help to pull your look together, and make you look a little less like Legally Blonde, too.

#4: Sweater + Wide Leg Pants + Coat

A pop of colour under neutral or monochrome black-and-white tones always work for us and is also an amazing way to incorporate unusual colours in. Like this green sweater – it’s an unconventional green, but not too overpowering because the other two help to partially drown it out.

#5: Oversized Blazer + Shirt + Mini Skirt

Blazers are amazing, and even more so when they’re oversized. The slouchy look goes well with a fun and flirty mini skirt that’ll even out the proportions to avoid looking like a potato sack.
