At Fendi, Practicality Takes Charge With Pockets And More Pockets
Utility, sportswear and logomania all came down the runway, but above all, that very essence of femininity and timelessness that is unmistakably Fendi.| September 25, 2018
Over the past few seasons, Fendi has grown to be more and more youthful, designing sportier pieces such as hoodies, track pants and even collaborating with Fila for a play on their logo. So, when Spring/Summer ’19 came by, we weren’t too surprised that biker shorts, bralettes and fanny packs came out to play.
Karl Lagerfield and Silvia Venturini Fendi always maintain the house’s aesthetic while infusing the things on everyone’s lips, by which we mean the unceasing penchant for that coveted “ease”. Think something Fendi, always channelling elegance and grace, but with an extremely refined twist on the sportswear trend. The bold mix of pastel greens, oranges and browns captured the essence of spring, putting forth a refreshing and fun look.
It’s hard to miss the large pockets upon pockets that came in all shapes and sizes – puffy, structured or overlapped over each other. The oversized utilitarian looks came to life on transparent jackets that were decked out in the signature double F logo. Each pocket was labelled with the type of items that would usually be found in them on the inside – “phone”, “wallet” and a zipper labelled “secrets”, perhaps to store your secret love letters? No more digging through the bottom and panicking whenever the cashier asks for your wallet, too. These fun pockets are also repeated throughout the accessories, making an appearance on a fanny pack and the iconic Peekaboo.
On the topic of the bags – ah, the bags. We could never forget them. The iconic Baguette bag, for starters, has the raised Fendi logo patterned throughout. Though dozens of fabrications were seen throughout the years, this is hands-down our new favourite. It’s no longer meant to be tucked under the arm – á la how one would carry the French bread that it was named after – and worn as a clutch, but hands-free and across the body. Plus, even though some of the bags are full leather, they’re featherlight. See how practicality takes charge?
Perhaps, an appropriate way to describe a Fendi girl is one who believes in the principle that form should follow function. A girl who is decisive, organised and practical. The easy and fuss-free pieces will surely be staples that will remain a favourite in the long run. Whether it’s rain or shine, headed to the gym or an elegant dinner, there’s an outfit here for every occasion. Now, enjoy go forth and enjoy the moments we captured on camera when we got to get up-close and personal with the pieces.
