The Squeal-Worthy Brainchild of Fashion’s Two Greatest Minds
We never thought we'd ever see pudgy, furry felines canoodling with Louis Vuitton's signature monogram. Only though the joined force of Ghesquiere and Coddington!| October 31, 2018
We’re no strangers to collaborations at Louis Vuitton. Supreme, Yayoi Kusama and now, the one and only, the iconic, the irreverent, the inimitable – Grace Coddington.
Scattered all over bags, shoes and even the comfiest of silk pyjama sets are the legendary multi-hyphenate’s signature illustrations of her two very furry Persian cats and one Labrador belonging to creative director Nicolas Ghesquière. Her squeal-worthy doodles were adapted from a book she published in 2006 titled The Catwalk Cats. Simply put, it is all extremely adorable and we just cannot get enough of her doodles.
The union of fashion’s two greatest minds in one very cute “Catogram” capsule collection is enticing in itself, but it’s further fuelled by our love for these furry felines. A cat devotee of 77 years, Coddington’s not alone in this. We’re kind of obsessed with Persians too, not only for their gentle nature, but for their fun and playful personality.
It is impossible to not want to collect every single item, whether to take out or to keep in a glass case forever. As if the collection couldn’t get any more special, Louis Vuitton’s monogram takes on the colour of Coddington’s signature fiery hair.
Perhaps why this collection feels so “on the next level” is because of how well the two things work together: Ghesquiere’s Louis Vuitton and Coddington’s cats. On one hand you have something sharp, sleek, luxurious and continually covetable, on the other something personal, minimal and just downright adorable. It is a wonderful contrast, the kind that makes magic. Add the fact this is GRACE CODDINGTON we’re talking about and voila – a collaboration with no equal.
