How To Take Tulle From The Ballet Into The Weekday
The trick is to think beyond the tulle skirt and think subtle. Unleash your inner Odette, we say!
| January 23, 2018Of the many trends to come out of the Spring/Summer 2018 runways, the biggest one is probably the return of the sheer. It was so favoured across the four cities that it is in fact the umbrella of two other trends: one being see-through outerwear, the other being tulle.
The popularity of tulle on the runway is surprising. Unlike trends like oversized blazers, nano-bags or deconstructed trench coats that easily slip into the everyday, tulle is something of a “niche” trend. You think layered tulle skirts and garden party-ready dresses. Basically, it is something the mind pairs with dash of pomp and pizzazz.
Or is it? Can tulle be for the everyday? Why, yes, yes it can, or we won’t bet talking about it at all. The trick to approaching it, as with so many seemingly tough wardrobe pieces, is to treat it like everything else. Have a tulle explosion of a skirt? Wear it with a white t-shirt. A dress with sleeves of miniature tutus? Wear it with sneakers. (Yoyo’s burgundy tulle dress is from Exhibit, which you can get here. It also comes in black.)
Also, think beyond the tulle skirt. Tulle blouses and button-downs, completely sheer tulle dresses, tulle shoes and even subtle tulle socks – channelling your inner Odette, even in the office, is so much easier than you think.
