Consider Taking The Striped Summer Dress Into Fall
Pick the right one and you'll have a piece that you'll be wearing all year long in a variety of ways. Here's the one I chose.| August 7, 2017
Like floral dresses, striped dresses often fall into the spring-summer category. Put them on a cotton-dress, whether it is sleeveless or not, and you straightaway imagine it with some backless loafers or lace-up sandals. The thing about stripes is that we know it is a print that is “season-less”. It is just that sometimes our judgement is clouded by the many striped beach umbrellas and striped beach towels we see all summer. We saw plenty of them recently in Positano and Capri. Striped things also often come in beach towel blues and reds, and these don’t always say “fall”.
But, if you’ve found a striped dress that you can’t stop wearing, why shouldn’t you be able to take it into the next season? Take this J.W Anderson dress, for example. Stripes, cold-shoulder cut-outs, puff sleeves, midi length, full skirt – it has all the features of a striped summer dress. Pair it with a straw hat and sandals and it looks even more so.
However, this dress is one of those statement yet minimal pieces, which give plenty of room to play around with. After taking these photos, I went home, swapped the hat and sandals for a turtleneck underneath and boots, and voila – I was all set for dinner. Fall isn’t officially here yet, and our local weather will always be far from fall, but there was something quite fall-ready about the second look. I kept the same velvet bag (also J.W Anderson), and velvet itself is already very fall.
Next time you look at your favourite striped summer dress, don’t just think beach and strolls in the park. Think about the possibilities. Shop our round-up of versatile striped dresses that you can easily take from summer into fall without breaking a sweat below.
