Thanks to Jacquemus, Our Summer Shopping Wishlist is Already Full

Simon Porte Jacquemus marched to the beat of his own drum with a Spring/Summer 2021 collection presented in a golden field and you bet, the hits were aplenty in the handbag department.

All it took was a few shows into the first-ever digital couture week earlier this month for us to conclude that couture, or fashion on the whole for that matter, would never be the same without the real deal. Pegging a runway presentation through the screen to one that takes place in the flesh is no fair comparison but the jarring disparity has left us craving for a return to the norm. While most designers have adapted their couture and resort showcases to a digital medium, Simone Porte Jacquemus satisfied our hankering for a return to the norm.

“For me, the runway can’t be a video. It’s at the heart of what we do; it’s not superficial. It’s important to all of us to continue, just like a restaurant that reopens. It’s like a movie of a summer day. It’s our life,” explained Jacquemus in an interview with Vogue. Sticking to his guns, Jacquemus took his Spring/Summer 2021 presentation to a meandering wooden platform amidst a vast wheat field an hour from Paris. Albeit reminiscent of last summer’s sprightly pink runway laid out in a lavender field, it was a memory we’d gladly revisit.

The clothes that made the way down the runway, too, were quintessentially Jacquemus. The designer kept to his winning formula of slit summer dresses, bra-top skirt and pant combinations rendered in a neutral palette of black, white, brown and beiges – pieces you already know will be all over Instagram feeds. Remember the one dress Gigi Hadid paraded down the Spring/Summer runway that broke the internet? Jacqumeus’s collections boast social media currency.

Speaking of Instagram stars birth at Jacqumeus, the house’s lineup of bags demand centre stage. We could go on and on about just how absolutely adorable the line of Le Chiquito carryalls is. Even if it fit nada, the bag made up for it in the cute department. This season, the designer introduced new Chiquito Noeud bags to the lineup alongside the debut of Le Baneto – a roomy rectangular pouch. The Le Riviera this season takes after the pearl bouquet embroidery spotted in the ready-to-wear lineup. As one would expect, our accessories wishlist is full courtesy of Jacquemus. Scroll through the gallery and tell us your picks of the season in the comments below!

P.S. The bags are already available for pre-order on the brand’s website.
