Loewe Mixed Gingham With Safari Hats And It Worked

Jonathan Anderson's Loewe girl is a traveller this season and she's wearing her wanderlust on her sleeve, hem and curved-toe trainers.
|

Things are never literal at Loewe, not under Jonathan Anderson’s watch. Seaside cottage vacations are translated into corsets and raw-edged skirts, old Hollywood glamour into a sea of black, feather sleeves and puff-sleeve dresses that a post-Roman Holiday Audrey Hepburn would have worn to the Oscars in an alternate universe.

Which is why when we were told that the traveller was this season’s inspiration, we knew better than to expect the run-of-the-mill stuff. We counted only two safari jackets and one trench coat in the line-up, all rendered in ways beyond the usual with shredded hems, detachable sleeves and elongated belts that swayed with every step. The logo safari hats were on more than a few looks, but that’s only because they’re so good and good things need to be shared, or in this case, multiplied.

Loewe’s traveller has been places and she’s wearing her wanderlust on a sleeve, hem and sole. The tapestry and paisley dresses looked as though they were made out of treasured finds from a souk. Sneakers bore curved toes, not unlike the slippers that one finds in a Moroccan market. Ruffled ginghams that would fit into any European countryside or even the American Midwest. Of course, the traveller needs her easy, take-everywhere pieces as well, and these came in the form of fuss-free shirt dresses and sinewy long-sleeved dresses with collars and cut-outs for extra oomph. Bags were delightfully roomy, complete with wide straps that just make life for your shoulders that much easier, whether you’re carrying more cameras than you need, mid-adventure snacks or your laptop, because sometimes you just can’t escape the office even though you’re miles away.

Anderson has the ability to make everyone of his looks different whilst keeping to a narrative and this season’s collection had something for everyone, from statement to simple to the lazy-day. See some of our favourite moments from the runway above.
