We Love Big Sleeves And We Cannot Lie

These dramatic sleeves are not only five-second outfits with instant street cred, but they double as secret snack pockets. OH, THE FUN.
|

The Statement Sleeve deserves the big “S” for being a survivor. As the spring/summer ’18 shows are slowly streaming in, we cannot help but notice how the pillow-like silhouette is still going strong from the runways to the streets. Bigger is typically better, and in the case of sleeves, we’ll have an extra serving.

Sure, sure – big sleeves, especially those that flare at the end or go past your fingertips get in the way 99 percent of the time. Not the best for all the spaghetti al pomodoro we’ll be having in between shows at Milan Fashion Week. Not the best for eating in general, really. But you know what balloon, bell, flare and whassit sleeves are good for? Let’s begin with the amount of things you can stuff in there. Kit Kat, gummies, bubble tea, AN ENTIRE BAGUETTE. Think about it the next time you’re en route to the cinema. Or, for one of those days where you want to play princess, or be that annoying daughter who goes, “Look Ma! No hands!” Hands and arms – who needs to see them, right?

Inject a bit of drama – and sass – by way of the giant statement sleeve with our top picks below. These all go so well with jeans, so that’s a five-second look right there. We’re looking at Staud and Roksanda for fall-ready colours and Rosie Assoulin and Saint Laurent severely dramatic days when a hair toss and a sleeve toss is required. Now, watch me walk away.
