Moynat Has Finally Opened Its Doors In Singapore
FINALLY – and it's celebrating with an exhibition in Ngee Ann City. Here's what you can expect. In collaboration with Moynat.| September 13, 2017
A million and one things happen at once when Paris Fashion Week comes around – that’s happening in under three weeks! – but the one thing we never miss despite the chaos is Moynat’s presentation above their not-so-little shop along rue Saint Honore. Let me tell you – that place is like a little vintage gallery.
There are antique suitcases stacked on top of on another, interspersed with the season’s sleek new pieces, 19th Century walls and natural daylight streaming through. The atelier, where everyone of their bags are being handmade with TLC, was just as quaint when we popped by last season for a quick look-see. We even tried to stitch a handle with our butter fingers. Not as easy as it looks, of course.
If you can’t be in Paris, Moynat brings their atelier to you. While you won’t get to see how bags like the Gabrielle, Cabotin or Mini Vanity are made, the new Moynat Gallery at Ngee Ann City gives you the chance to create your very own bespoke Moynat. You can even get it hand-painted by their artisans. We saw one of said artisans at work at the Moynat Gallery and her painting was so delicate and intricate. You look at it and wonder…how?
The interior of Moynat Gallery is inspired by the classic Limousine trunk from 1902, so there’s that warm, old-world feel mixed with futuristic touches. In the event that your eyes demand more, Moynat also has a little exhibition called “Le Kaleidoscope” just a minute away where you can see installations of its iconic bags, whether hanging among art deco-eqsue gilded gold cages or velvet drapes. “Le Kaleidoscope” runs from now until 17 September, so if you’re in town during the weekend, just pop by and soak in all the gorgeous leather marquetry and craftsmanship.
