15 Last Minute New Year’s Eve Outfit Ideas As Told By The Streets

There's plenty of shine and not a single one of them near the boundaries of basic.
|

It is the final countdown to THE final countdown. While all is forgiven if you decided to ditch the sequins for ugly sweaters earlier on Christmas day, the same cannot be said for New Year’s Eve. It’s New Year’s Eve to bust out the shine or never, y’all!

Creating an outfit for the all-important day is easy. Pick a sequinned, glittered or metallic something and most people can call it a day. But, you aren’t most people. You don’t like the easy way out. That second-skin sequinned dress and glitter shoes combo you’re going to see everywhere on 31 December? Pfft, child’s play. You deserve something with more panache – and that doesn’t mean adding on more shine. For this, we’re taking cue from the streets.

The trick to putting a cool girl spin on your shiny duds is simple: mix it in with everyday wear. Viola. A t-shirt, a turtleneck sweater, a pair of jeans, seasoned black boots, a contrasting print or a piece that is the very opposite of holiday, like a utilitarian cargo pant. If you’re wearing a shiny skirt, ditch the shiny shoes and try sneakers instead.

If you’re not feeling your New Year’s Eve lewk or worse, haven’t planned it at all, look no further than the ladies in the gallery above and their devil-may-care methods of tackling shine. It’ll work at the party, it’ll work after the party. Shiny pieces aren’t the most versatile things you can own, but if they can be, they’re keepers!
