These Pants Will Make Your Legs Look Extra Long
Because when you don't have legs as long as the Giseles of the world, one has to make do. Learn this styling tip and apply it forever.| September 11, 2017
Being petite-sized has its perks. I almost always manage to find my shoes in my size at a sale, I can squeeze into small spaces on the train. But you know what’s not great? Shopping for long pants, because it’s difficult to find one that sits on my waist perfectly and I always have to get my friendly neighbourhood tailor to chop off at least a third of it. Not that it’s to much work, but life seems a lot easier if I didn’t approach the matter. Do I have to resign to a life of cropped pants?
No, I refuse! I reject that in the name of all that is good! A pair of pants can make or break a look, and I’m going to go with the former. How? This is a styling tip that I learned from the boss a.k.a. Yoyo: instead of altering the pants and wasting a third of what you paid for it, let the hem graze the ground. Legs not long enough? Make up for it with platforms. It is added height without too much added pain. To create the illusion of even longer legs, go for something high-waisted and let the pant cover the shoe entirely. Instant leg stretchers.
Those magnificent red Celine pants on Yoyo aren’t available anymore, but you can still pull a little bit of styling magic with our shopping edit below. Petar Petrov gets our vote for its nipped-in waist and wide-leg, but if you want extra drama go for Ellery’s massive wide-leg pants or that pink crushed velvet number from Rejina Pyo. To really lock down the illusion, try high-waisted, floor-grazing pants with vertical stripes. Triple whammy. These are pants that can go from corporate chic to off-duty cool as well, so these are all at least triple whammies.
As for the platforms, no shoe has served us as well as the Saint Laurent Candy Bow. If you want something fancier for pantless days, try the Alexa Chung faux croc mules, Gucci platform loafers or Miu Miu embellished Mary Janes. We fooled around with the Gucci ones once and they were so much fun to walk in.
