See All The Coolest Details From Prada’s Spring/Summer ’18

Because when things are that good, you have to see it twice. That coat covered in comics is basically a morning's worth of activity in itself.

Has Miuccia Prada been watching Riverdale? Probably not, though for small screen aficionados such as yours truly, the source material of the teen thriller inevitably comes to mind as models strutted all over Prada’s headquarters in looks and accessories created around vintage-inspired comic prints. A particular cross-body bag featuring a blonde female brings good ol’ Betty “Always The Best Friend Never The Girlfriend” Cooper to mind, for instance.

Any reminiscing of Archie Comics pretty much ends right there, though. Prada has never shied from quirky – and the collection is quirky – but politics was the bigger picture. Every comic print, whether on the girls or the walls, was created by female artists, a way for Miuccia Prada to raise the female voice in these trying times. According to WWD, the choice of cartoons also had to do with its ability to “suggest so much more than if you are serious”. Miuccia Prada served a cool collection and now that we know the backstory? It is about five times cooler.

Shows are great, but when it comes to Prada, a second look is always necessary. Even more so considering that some have a story to tell. Literally. Comic book prints were all over t-shirts, coats, jackets and dresses, many if not all guaranteed to be collected and remembered by present and future generations to come. (That one coat covered entirely in a comic is a morning’s worth of activity in itself.) Hems were high, though more to do with utilitarian shorts than skirts.

The accessories were a killer, too. Spider acrylic earrings, skinny eighties futurism sunglasses that we already know will fly off the shelves and just bags after bags covered in comics and speech bubbles. A special shout-out goes to the bags and shoes tagged with fabric labels that typically appear on the lining of Prada’s pieces. A subtle, classy nod to logomania. See some of our favourite details from the Spring/Summer ’18 collection above.
