5 South Korean Designers That Need To Be On Your Radar

The South Koreans are coming! The South Koreans are coming! Get to know the up-and-coming clothing labels leading this side of the Korean Wave.
|

A force to be reckon with doesn’t even begin to describe the cultural epicentre that is Seoul, and by extension, South Korea. For nearly a decade now, people the world over and their mothers have been savouring every drop of the Korean Wave – or hallyu – whether it is the pop stars, tearjerking dramas or flourishing beauty industry. Lately, the spotlight has expanded to include the country’s fashion scene, proving that these South Koreans still have plenty up their sleeves. The zenith of the phenomenon only gets higher every day. Just when you think it has peaked, it peaks some more.

The traditional “Big Four” in the fashion lexicon has long referred to New York, London, Milan and Paris. Tokyo is often the next on the list. With all that is going on in Seoul – particularly with the recent Seoul Fashion Week and all the coverage it received – this city is only moving higher and higher up the ranks. Above, we’ve rounded up looks from five stand-out labels spotted at last week’s Seoul Fashion Week – Kye, Bourie, Rocket x Lunch, Pushbutton and Fleamadonna – that we think you should know about pronto.
